give a 5-day ban to everyone who says "See sig" or "sig spot" in an unrelated thread ( f.e potential drama thread )

TD, you should kill everything suggested in here, sigs, short posts, etc. When the traffic drops to 0 at least teh morons can see why it hasn't been done before.

If I had known he was coming back I'd take the trade-off of everyone staying banned. :disgust

Hey Texas .... how many posts do you have to have in order to change "Registered User' to something a little more unique?

WebDork 02-26-2006 02:27 PM

Not sure if your technical or not, but what box is the GFY forum running on and how much tweaking did you have to do to the forum and the o/s to cope with the load ? Im trying to get some tips on what I need to do to get my own forum more stable.

2HousePlague 02-26-2006 02:30 PM

Okay, this is threshold interesting. But, what I don't get is -- why the *partial* measures? If these miscreants have proven themselves undesirable in the community, why send an *equivocal* message? Seems to me the best way to say "You're no longer welcome" is an outright banning. If it were me, I'd wanna know, so that I might, as they used to say in the Old South, "cotton on". This sig displacement things seems to send the message that they are *conditionally" welcome, which, given what you said about the little likelihood of reconciliation, is simply not the case. You can't have it both ways. I think you should let folks move on, by giving them the courtesy, the basic respect of a clear message. Say, "get lost" if that's what you mean/want.

Determining who's a webmaster, and who's not is the big trick. I did find a combination of modules and plug-ins for vBulletin that would require the user to pass a quiz before they can post. Maybe I'll put that in place for April Fools day. So study up on quantum mechanics and astrophysics, it's gonna be a tough quiz.

So that when i fly a new sig i dont have ro refresh GFY 5000 times to see if my sponsor is included.

I'm looking at making a page with all of the top spot banners, and putting it as a menu link (probably a link between the "GFY Rules" and "Calendar"). I just haven't built the code to do it yet. It'll get there and probably soon. :)

And as I've said before, once they are in chances are they will NEVER be let out. In the last two weeks, over 1,000 people lost their sigs. In the next two weeks I go back and check who put the big sigs right back.

IMHO, I don't think that would really do any good. There are just too many variations to get the end result across without using either. For example:

sea cig
seesig
c cig

or by switching to a graphic like:
http://ethicalporn.com/forum/images/smilies/seesig.gif

The only way to really curb the practice of it would be to ban the act instead of the words. Just my :2 cents:

That's why the count in that group is pretty low. It's a last resort for those that continue to break the sig rules. I don't really like to use it, but it IS necessary. For those in "Sig DISplacement", they've broken the rule blatantly, and usually more than 10 times. Once someone is put in there it's pretty much of a "life sentance". Only one has ever come out of that group, and they moved from that to the "Probation" group, where they were forced to run a "RealityCash" banner, and all of their posts were fully moderated for 90 days.

Oh yeah, my quote will work!! I call bullshit, cuz I didn't break the rule 10 times I broke it once, then made fun of your stupid text you put there in it's place, then called you a cry-baby. So which of those was the reason I got banned? I say it's cuz I called you a cry-baby... :1orglaugh

Calling companies or people out - the serious shit, not you hire tranny escorts.

i read many negative accusations and the like and a majority of the time the accusations are never substantiated nor is proof ever given or shown to support the negative claims of the accusers..

the rule should be if your calling a person or company out, proof should be given in the first post - no fucking hearsay or any other bullshit should be allowed and if found doing so, the accuser should be banned.

But that would ruin all the fake drama and MAD VIEWS that fuel GFY.:1orglaugh

Just north of there. Haven't made it out to Sacramento Raceway yet, but from checking out their schedule they have some neat things coming up...

Saturday, April 22 - 25th Annual ?FUNNY CAR FEVER?
Gates open 8am, Pit Admission $25, Pit Parking $20. General Admission Gates open 12 noon, $20. Jet Funny Cars, Nostalgia Nitro Funny Cars, Pro Gas, CIFCA Funny Cars, Drag Bikes, JR. 330 Racers, Quick 32 ET.

I know that they filmed some of the episodes from "PINKS" on Speed Channel at Sac Raceway, it looks like a decent small track.

:thumbsup

When I right-click on Juicy's join date, location, posts, etc and choose "copy link location", I get:

Code:

http://www.twinktime.com>What Gets Me HOT!</a></div><div class=

but w/o the code tags
