| All those guys that do street magic use actors as there crowd. Ever notice in the street magic its allways only 5 or less people around the magician.. There all in on the trick. I.e the levitation trick is basically crowd reaction shots then editing with some editer app to make it look like the guy is floating. That trick is never done live for a reason.

I'm often asked by people if there are ways to "fool their friends" and if I can teach them some "party tricks that will really floor people". WITHOUT A DOUBT the #1 thing that a novice can take some time to learn, that will fool people just as well as magicians that have spent years mastering complex slight of hand techniques, is the "card force". Virtually EVERY CARD TRICK that you've ever seen involves a "force". What's a force? Basically it's a slight of hand technique that a magician uses to "force" the spectator to pick a playing card of his choosing. Once you know in advance what card a spectator is going to pick, you can perform any number of variants of an effect, including "mind reading", having the chosen card "predicted" by writing it's name in a sealed envelop, etc. etc. There are literally HUNDREDS of ways to "force" a card, some more obvious than others, and some taking WAY more practice than others. One of the easier card forces to master is called the Slip Riffle. I found this link which does a pretty good job teaching it: http://allmagic.com/magicshow/cards/slipriffle.html It might take a week of you fucking around with a deck of cards to get it down pat, but once you do you have a lifetime ahead of you to freak people out at the poker table! | |

				 | Here's how to make a card placed on the back of your hand begin to curl up without being touched - this works great in pubs or with friends who are drinking, and is unbelievably easy to do. What you do is secretly wet the back of your hand by wiping it on the condensation on a beer bottle or cold glass, then just place the card lengthways on the back of your hand. The moisure and heat from your hand will cause the laminate on the card to warp, forcing the card to curl slightly while it sits on your hand. It takes about 30-60 seconds, and adjusting the angle of your hand makes it appear more pronounced. Spectators WILL see the card bending before their eyes without it being touched. Then challenge the spectators to try the same - unless they wet the back of their hand first, it won't work. |

				 | I can't fucking believe that you are sitting here telling all the secrets. As a card carrying member of both the S.A.M. and the I.B.M. I am totally appalled to see "one of our own" revealing our most trusted secrets! Just kidding. Actually I used to be a member of I.B.M....and my dad was in the Order of the Merlin, but I have long since quit giving a shit about prestidigitation. BTW, if you were in S.A.M., did you ever go to any of the MagiFests in Ohio? |

				 | how does David Blaine levitate? the same way that other guy did? I always thought it was weird that they only show his feet on camera, not the rest of his body. I mean he bould be pulling himself up on a chin up bar and the camera wouldnt catch it. |

The wavy blue curtain in the background that's constantly moving is an OLD technique to "break up" the wires so that they can't be seen. If the curtain behind him wasn't moving, the wires would be VERY visible. The wires aren't straight up and down during most of the illusion, but rather are a giant V going from 1 end of the stage to the other, with the performer himself being the bottom point. This allows for the double hoops to be rolled over top of him (which is what's actually happening), while the wires remain off to the sides. When he enters the plexiglass container the wires are again in V formation out of the top sides, and he's basically rotating himself on his center axis. He's actually patented the technology that he had developed to accomplish the illusion, and you can read about the actual harness and wire configuration, along with seeing diagrams of the device here: http://64.132.7.41/pcgi-bin/patents/...he/5354238.pdf

People are unpredictable, so it's not worth having that uncertainty when you can just use a stooge and no one's the wiser. Often times his people will call up the local S.A.M. or I.B.M. chapter for where he's performing, and get local magicians or their wives to be stooges, so that it's not the same people being used over and over again. I hear the non disclosure contract that they're made to sign is several dozen pages long.

This trick is done EXACTLY the same was as Chris' walking through a shop window that I talked above above. Notice one side of the table connects to the wall, the other side of the table has a long portion that's actually not glass but wood (viewable at 38sec. in approx). This allows the glass surface to slide from one direction to another. In one case, to reveal a hole that allows for the shaker to be passed through, on the other side to reveal the embeded coin. Objects are fixed to the table so that the glass surface appears to remain stationary. The other pass through effects of the coin are accomplished by simple "palming" techniques. Notice after the coin passes all the way through the hand above the table remains closed and "pointing" to what he wants you to see, to draw attention away from the coin palm.

Showing both hands empty, pushing a scarf into one of your fists, then immediately opening your hand to show the scarf has vanished. Or, to allow a lit cigarette to be stuffed into your hand, then immediately opening it to show that it's vanished. It's also sometimes used to deliver a "load" (no relation to this industry, haha). IE, folding coins, marked bills, etc. As long as when your audience sees your hand your thumb is always pointed straight forward, the tip will go totally unnoticed.

The tip should NOT extend below the knuckle of your thumb. Otherwise, you can't bend your thumb inward toward your palm while pointing it directly ahead, which is the proper technique. You might want to saw it off a little shorter and then smooth the edges from a distance with a lighter.
