Seeking advice from Swedish webmasters

Hello there

Any swedish webmasters out there who can advise me on something?

Was trying to find out about the whole TAX-thing - i.e when you get checks (usually from the U.S.) and deposit into swedish banks (I guess that's how most people do it).

But... do you pay taxes? If so, what's the best way? I guess one alternative is to write it up as "Income, services" on the annual tax-declaration, but that would yield a huge lump sum of tax due for payment at the end of the year right? Or is it possible to deposit this money to the government little by little?

Another alternative I guess is to start up a small company, but I'd rather not.

Any ideas or advice would be much appreciated.

Not sure how it works over in sweden, but if you run a small company, you'll still have to pay your taxes in a lump sum. That's how my parents do it at least.. I live in australia by the way. I'm not sure how things work over there in Sweden..

Thanks for the BBS tip - found some info there (not exactly what I needed, but at least a ton of other people as clueless about it as myself, hehe)

Regarding starting a company - I believe that here in Sweden you can open a special taxaccount and make payments to it during the year to avoid a large lump payment. When paying as a "person" I think the only option is the large end-of-the-year payment though.

The hike through the info-jungle continues ....

Well the only way to find out is to call them.
Or talk to a revisor about it.

Got that right

Anyway, I did send them an anon email and got a few replies. As usual when dealing with our government however, they made little or no sense.

I read some horrorstories the other day about webmasters here who received payments that they didn't pay taxes for, so I guess somehow it has to be sorted out. I hear the banks cooperate closely with the taxdepartment in nailing people. (Fuckin fascists.. )

Will let ya know if I find any smooth way to handle it.

They found out that i cashed in some checks 2-3years ago. Now i can't get them off me. So it's 100% in the book from now on.. i suspect that my bank sent them the check transactions in some way.

in sociala avgifter, (se deklaration av extra inkomster)

Don't know how much you're cashing, but if not very much - just think how to make big bucks - not how to pay taxes

When you make real cash $$$ just go legally offshore - swedish, finnish etc. webmasters don't have any other real choises if you don't want loose your hard earned cash on 50% - 70% tax bills.

Just operate your business from some tax friendly country and be legally happy.

50%?

Translation - this means I can't understand what the hell you all are writing but it all sounds like what I wrote above.

Please let us in on the info. Some of us have companies based in Sweden, but don't speak the language. This seems like an informative post.

Please... someone summarize any resolution in English for me!

We're just talking about swedish taxes, which aren't the best.

Anyway, how many swedish webmasters are there on this board? There seems to be quite a few.

AFAIK it's 70K. But how about this: Set up an account with an offshore bank (like Singapore) and cash the cheques there, and then pull it all out via ATMs in Sweden. No tax. No trace. I have spoken to a guy who knows about this in *Australia*, and he says with the volume of transactions via ATMs and the low amonuts, they have no way of tracing it all. They have bigger fish to fry.

Otherwise, skattemyndigheten has more info on you guys (and probably me as well) than your own family. So - if it goes into your bank, you *must* pay the tax or get caught!
