Need a passport for Nassau Bahamas?

Anyone know if I will need to have a passport to get into Nassau Bahamas? We will be flying into Nassau not coming off of a cruise ship.

I have read a government ID would do so I'm thinking my state drivers license would be fine?

Incorrect.

I think the Bahamas would be considered the Caribbean, but you should investigate further.

Yep, they postponed implementation after they realized there was no possible way they could get everyone the passports they needed. Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Panama are passport free til December 2006.

Hmm, when I went to Mexico last year I was told that I would not be allowed in without a passport. Passports aren't hard to get and make verifying who you are and such much easier... therefore you get through the lines much faster, etc. I would get one just in case. Just my paranoid opinion though.

I believe you need a photo id (Driver's License) and an certified Birth Certificate (one with a stamp or seal not just an extract) on it . Least thats always worked for me.

ACTUALLY... I misspoke. I was told that I may get INTO Mexico just fine, but may not be allowed BACK into the US as easily without a passport. Either way, a passport was highly recommended to me.
