I'm bored and thinking about creating a NEW SITE. Give me some ideas...

We've been working on a huge project for the last few months that will launch for BETA testing shortly, but my job on it is pretty much done so now I'm looking for something to keep me busy for a little while. I think I am going to build a new site, but I am having trouble deciding on what kind of site to build. Here are a few of the (boring) ideas that have crossed my mind:

Dating Site
Webcam Site
AV Chat Site
Adult Industry "Insider" (Webmaster) Site
etc.

I am posing this question as a serious business thread, so I would like your honest ideas. What is this industry lacking (or what could it use)? Don't be afraid to answer, if I like your idea and end up building the site, I may be open to taking you on as a partner. So without further ado, let's hear your suggestions GFY...

Problem is...I would think anyone with a genuinely innovative idea would tend to keep it to themselves.

But good luck.

Yeah, you're probably right about that. However, it doesn't even have to be a truely innovative idea; I'm not looking to become mega rich from it, just looking for something productive to do. Heck, if someone said that an image hosting site for hosting banners and such would be a benefit to the industry, I would consider it a good idea.

Hey Reak, we've been having problems with our icq the past few days, so we are having one of our IT guys track down the problem and reinstall a few of the programs (including Trillian) but it should be fixed within the next hour; so I'll hit you up as soon as we're back up and running.

Then I'd suggest you do a site that you have a personal passion or interest in yourself. Having enthusiasm for a project is one of the keys to doing it well much of the time I'd say.

Hmmmm... I got to thinking about what you said. It's sad, but after working this hard for so long, I can't think of any passions really; and none that would make a useful site. I think my passion comes with actual designing of the site. However, I do have another idea for a site that I have been tossing around in my head for some time; thinking about creating a site (for this industry) that puts faces (pics) to the usernames. I don't know why, I just like to get a visual sometimes of who it is that I am talking to.

How about a site that has tips, tricks and advice for creating good websites. Development, graphic ideas, layout...marketing & promotion, content...etc. Focus strictly on that rather than allowing it to become just another 'general discussion' forum.

Not exactly a new idea, of course. But if the site becomes worthy and attracts the right people it could develop in to a good resource over time.

I work for a high-end mainstream design studio. We do anything from high-end websites to digital special effects sequences for broadcast and motion pictures. However, a bunch of us got together and decided to quietly spawn an "adult" side to the company.

For the most part, anything goes (seriously). I have designers, programmers, and servers at my disposal. Not to mention a ton of previously written scripts, engines, and frameworks from past projects. Just imagine that the sky is the limit. So, what is your idea?

Damn, nobody has any ideas? It amazes me that out of this entire board, the 5 people that replied are evidently the only ones with any ideas; oh well, back to the drawing boards I guess...

Thanks, AlienQ. Unfortunately there is nothing to consult about until I can pull people away from the drama threads and get some opinions.

Hmm...

I wasn't aware earlier that you had access to a pool of resources like that.

Years ago Adobe came out with Atmo (short for Atmosphere), a 3D virtual environment where members navigated through 3D worlds as an avatar and could interact in real time with other people in the worlds.

It wasn't a unique idea at the time, there were already several other companies doing similiar stuff, but Adobe's version increased the quality and resolution of the graphics considerably.

My idea at the time was to create a virtual 3D adult world...along the lines of an adult art gallery, where people could navigate through a realistic art gallery and view adult images and photos (like paintings) on the walls. I took it as far as actually designing a world myself and put it up on Adobe's servers, but at the time most people didn't have computers fast enough to really take advantage of using Atmosphere, and I kinda' lost interest in the project after that.

Still might be a viable concept, though. Dunno what the demographic audience would be for it...but might be somethin' to consider trying.

Won`t it be hard to control an avatar, chat, interact AND jack off at the same time?

maybe create a private site for adult webmasters only, where they have to get references from known adult webmasters to get access. Then people can contribute their thoughts and ideas to make the industry better; such as the reduction of surfers.

That's actually more along the lines of what I was thinking of. Perhaps have representatives from each of the programs as well as some of the well known designers and other industry insiders

Oh man, Adobe Atmosphere, now there's a name I haven't heard in years; talk about a blast from the past . We actually had a browser-capable virtual project going a few years ago but we decided to shelf the project; it's still around here somewhere and honestly I had forgotten all about it until you said that. I may just go dig it up for the hell of it
