Which sony Vid cam for Live vid feeds.

There is a sony store nearby so i'd like to get a sony.

I'm going to be doing some live vid feeds and i'd like to know which camera to use. I have to have the camera on a remote tripod with zoom and pan so the girls can control it themselves.

I've looked at some sony digital 8 cams and a sony remote tripod. I can't figure out what exactly is needed on the camera to make it zoom from the remote tripod.

i think this is the feature i need but i'm not too sure
"Intelligent Accessory Shoe - instantly recognizes compatible accessories, like lights and microphones, powers and interacts with them"

There are some sony digital 8 cams here.

You need two controls, actually. For the zoom function, the supplied IR remote (with Sony camcorders) has that already on it. Or, you could use a wired LANC controller. I use the Digital Zoom Controller from Studio1 Productions, http://www.studio1productions.com/dzc1.htm and find it to be reliable and well-built.

For a remote pan and tilt, I can recommend the Bescor Electronic Motorized Pan Head (MP-101), which I got from B & H Photo, http://www03.bhphotovideo.com/defaul...ED84 24232D0.

Both come with extension cords, which you may as well get from the beginning- they add a great deal of flexibility to the setup, they're not that expensive and you'll want them sooner or later...

Alternatively, pick up a Sony EVI-D30. You can usually find them brand new for under $500 on ebay. I got one new for $400 a few months ago - if you want to see the quality and stuff, hit me up on ICQ 39975690 and I'll crank it up.

Yep, the IR remote is all you need to zoom, lanc if you want to pan and tilt. I have the DCR TRV 900 and it absolutely rocks.

edited because I don't read properly

Thanks for the info guys
I'd still like some more info, specifically on the sony digital 8 series. I'm 100% certain that i'm getting one. I guess i could go for not having a pan function but it would be a lot better if i had one. i just learned recently that they come with a remote which can zoom. I'd like to knwo if i can get something which can pan the camera for me PLUS control the zoom function on the camera with ONE remote instead of getting 2.

You know, for simply live streaming, I'd go with DrGuile. Here's a link to check out the system (there may be better prices, I didn't look too hard) http://goelectronic.com/Merchant2/me...O+CONFERENCING

With that set up, you could connect the output to both a VCR, for replay later, and your computer with a capture device and streaming software, for live upload. The VCR could be of whatever quality you could afford, in increasing order- VHS (uhh!), S-VHS or Hi-8, and DV formats.

As far as Digital8, I'd only recommend that if you have already been working in Hi-8 and want to ease into digital formats. Even then, it's still only an intermediate step and you'll soon be lusting for the 3 chip cams that you're not going to find until you finally go with the DV format entirely.

In other words, if you're starting out, go with a Sony TRV900, VX2000 or PD150, or a Canon GL1 or XL1. Otherwise with Digital8, you're buying into a proprietory Sony format that may not be around later and, for me at least, is a merely a temporary bridge from analog formats.
