You know, for simply live streaming, I'd go with

With that set up, you could connect the output to both a VCR, for replay later, and your computer with a capture device and streaming software, for live upload. The VCR could be of whatever quality you could afford, in increasing order- VHS (uhh!), S-VHS or Hi-8, and DV formats.
As far as Digital8, I'd only recommend that if you have already been working in Hi-8 and want to ease into digital formats. Even then, it's still only an intermediate step and you'll soon be lusting for the 3 chip cams that you're not going to find until you finally go with the DV format entirely.
In other words, if you're starting out, go with a Sony TRV900, VX2000 or PD150, or a Canon GL1 or XL1. Otherwise with Digital8, you're buying into a proprietory Sony format that may not be around later and, for me at least, is a merely a temporary bridge from analog formats.
