We've wanted the caspian oil reserves for a long time, which is why we helped Afghanistan fight off the Soviets... didnt want the Soviets running a pipeline across Afghanistan straight to the caspian sea.

Iranian want Freedom ... A lot of Iranians in the States say so ... they want to be like Americans" shop at wal-mart, eat at McDonalds and sleep in a nice trailer park.
They want elections supervised by the US , and want to work for the oil companies earning enough to make ends meet.
Americans understand that and they want to give them that Freedom ... out of their heart.

The "comedian" Dennis Miller says almost exactly what you said, and he's serious. Last time I was in the middle east I noticed every woman I met from Iran was absolutely smoking. You never see women like that on TV when they show Iran. You always see burka covered Bertha's. It's an entirely different story over there.
