It was to expect ... but like 13 movies for 17.99 is a pretty good fucking deal if you ask me.

it was obvious they were throttling when i used them several years ago. The trial account they sent movies immediately, no queue for new releases. Once we signed up and started watching 3 movies a week... it got ridiculous
SIG TOO SMALL! Maximum 1200x600 button and no more than 30 text lines of ALL SIZES and COLORS. Unless your sig is for a GFY top banner sponsor, then you may use a 6240x4800 instead of a 1024x800.

I'm about set to cancel the fucking thing.
not to mention 2 out of every 3 of the wrappers are completely fucked up. and i'm often having to double up returns.

funny, when I buy their used dvd's outright, they arrive pretty damn quick.

I was going to post earlier that it's bullshit that they advertise unlimited dvd's and next day delivery if they are not keeping up with it. But then I ended up signing up for it and am waiting for my dvd's to arrive on Monday. I signed up for just the 1at a time price plan... see how it goes.

As the guy in that article said, the key is that their promise of "unlimited DVDs" that isn't what they deliver. And unfortunately, unless you live in the immediate vicinity of two other services (don't remember their names, but one is near Los Angeles, the other in Maryland), Netflix is the best and, per-movie, the cheapest service. Certainly here in the mid-west, Blockbuster is absolute rubbish.

I wasted 2 months, until I found out about the class action, which in turn led me to some of the many sites detailing Netflix' "throttling", believing they were actually going to check into why it often appeared to be taking 5+ business for returned movies to reach their local depot: 2 hours drive away and the first stop for all mail out of the town where I live.

In straight money terms, their prices are still good. But a really irritating consequence is that you can go for days with no movies at all, and then your whole allotment arrives at once. That is undoubtedly part of their scheme for limiting rentals and it's like a constant reminder that you aren't getting what you were sold.

Of course, their defense of this practise does beg the question of how can anyone be a high-volume user if they are successfully throttled. I have several friends who definitely are not in that category and surprise, surprise, they all average not more than 12-14 movies a month...

The biggest issue I always had with netflix is the movies always seemed to be scratched and skip... That would always suck to get 1/2 into a movie and have the fucking thing freeze or skip..

blockbuster.com is pretty good. i tested both. i was signed up to both at the same time for 3 months straight and it seemed blockbuster had way better/quicker service... plus u can always go to their store and pick up videos

I've had netflix for nearly a year now and am pretty happy. I've only had a couple movies that came damaged. one was really scratched and wouldn't play, and two were actually broken. I had one get lost too. Otherwise it's pretty good. I usually get 3 movies a week. I get them, watch them over the weekend and have more by the next weekend so 12 movies a month for $18 is a good deal for me.

Although I found out about something. I live about 20 miles from a warehouse so delivery super fast. Unless you are wanting something that is lesser known. The movies are less popular are no always from the local warehouse. So if i want a really popular flix it will come from the local warehouse and be here in one day. If I want an indie movie or something much less popular then i get it usually within a couple of days because it's coming from out of state.

Really what do you guys expect? a 2 day turn around? and having them ship you out 15 different times a month? How much does it cost for the shipping 1 way, like .85 - 1.00 ? x2, say even $1.50 round trip to mail you the videos. shit they do that 10 times a month and they losing big time, not to mention the cost of buying new movies which is not cheap at all, and all the warehouses and employees they have, advertising, etc.. Half of their membership has to be rebilling each month and not using the service or not realizing they still getting charged for these guys to make a profit. Need the dummies to offset the heavy users, but still even if you get 10 packages a month from them, they losing money from the shipping cost alone....

I don't like them by the way. There is an alternative to this and I am working on it .....

                                                      At least read the article

... each DVD sent out and returned costs 78 cents in postage ...

Netflix added nearly 1.6 million customers last year, giving it 4.2 million subscribers through December. During the final three months of 2005, just 4 percent of its customers canceled the service, the lowest rate in the company's six-year history.
Netflix's approach has paid off, so far. The company has been profitable in each of the past three years, a trend its management expects to continue in 2006 with projected earnings of at least $29 million on revenue of $960 million. Netflix's stock price has more than tripled since its 2002 initial public offering.
