Would you rather have a conversation with a toddler or a really old person?

I find I have to be on my mental toes when I am having a conversation with either. Mostly because I will most likely have to explain things I say a lot more and repeat myself. Both can be rewarding but both can be seriously frustrating as well.

My uncle and aunt had to move to Canada due to a job and as a favor I would drive my uncle's father who had alzheimers to his cancer doctor which was about a 2 hour round trip.

I did this for about a whole week, 1 week a month for about 2-3 months.

Great old man, but damn if I didn't have to hear the same story over and over all the way there and all the way back. I mean literally over and over and over.

I talk to a toddle as it's exciting what they will learn.

I talk to an elder as it's exciting what I will learn.

Depends on the topic I guess. Although I can't remember the last time I talked to a toddler or an 'old person'.

With a toddler anyday. They get bored and want to go and play with their toys after a few minutes, old people can prattle on for hours which makes me want to go and play with toys after a few minutes.

true and I like how little kids think you know all of their friends. For example if they over here you talking about someone named Tom they will stop you and say 'the Tom from school?' because in their world there is only one of each name.

I love talking with professors emeriti from fields like philosophy and history. Generally speaking, if people have continued to broadly develop their minds throughout their lives, at older ages their vast range of knowledge with easily make up for the slowness of wit that often comes with age.

On the other hand, old people who lack knowledge and have let their minds become inflexible are utterly intolerable.

As for toddlers, those I simply can't stand.

You're really missing out This morning my toddler climbed into bed with me and told me all about his dreams from the night before (mostly in gibberish), stroked my hair sweetly, and then climbed from the bed but as is his normal practice he clung to my hand and pulled me up with him.

There is nothing sweeter in my day than seeing my toddler smile at me (especially that early in the morning "I'm SO glad to see you smile") and then talk to me about whatever pops into his pretty little head.

I'm not saying ALL toddlers are a joy to be around, or that any toddler is a joy to be around at all times. But then again, neither is anyone else.

No toddlers in our lives these days (already went through that phase twice)...but given the choice I'd much sooner talk with older seniors. My parents live in the next city over from us and we get together often to shoot the shit about politics and stuff. Always enjoy hearing their perspective on things (both in their late 60s).

My wife works in a hospital in a retirement community. Every so often she comes across older men who have served in WWII. I'm a huge fan of WWII. My wife mentions this to them, and every so often we end up going to dinner with some of them. The stories they tell amaze me and they love to tell the stories!

I think a lot of it would depend on my mood. But, there's something to be said for talking to those from another generation. It can be incredibly enlightening and give you a different perspective on life, knowing what many of them lived through.

It's amazing some of the things we take for granted today...and some of the things we missed out on.
