I have such soft for watermarking pics, another one for cutting or joining mpegs, but none of them can watermark movies, so Im interrested, too.

It's not as easy as calling GD in php!

Obviously it is possible, but you're going to have to re encode the video, and that takes time.

If you want a simple solution: VideoCharge (v. nice little utility)

If you want a slightly better solution: Windows Media Encoder

If you want slightly more control: Ulead Video Editor

If you want pro gear: Premiere

There may be a way to do it using MPlayer, it's been a while since I have looked into it but I think at one time I read that it was possible.

Your other option is using a custom player built with flash or AJAX thay just uses an overlay. Hit me up and I can tell you how we are using that kind of solution for another un-released we're working on.

Errr, some of you are misunderstanding what he is trying to do I think. Premiere, Final Cut Pro, Vegas, etc. are all offline solutions, he is looking to do it on the fly online with a script.

Someone mentioned VideoCharge. It won't do it on the fly on your server, but it doesn't get an easier.

All I was able to find was a thread on a board asking the same thing. The easy answer was a flash system as mentioned. Another poster suggested maybe a package called ffmpeg or ffmpeg-php, but those seem to only be able to extract information (frames) and let you manipulate them with imagemagick. Not reassemble them.

Riverpast.com posted that his company was contemplating making a server-side system, but it would be priced $5k - $10k because of the massive number of codecs and formats out there..

Not watermarking?... It really is nothing in Premier. I have one machine that is a dedicated editing suite I just put my watermark on it and render while i am working on another. In the long run I think it's worth it.

If you use Premier and you don't know how then let me know. I can explain it in a few easy steps and the quality of your video stays high.

I was put off at first by your 'on the fly' comment.

If you were looking for a system where you could dump movies, and in its own time it would watermark them and then save them somewhere - that's possible; uploading a video and then downloading it instantly obviously isn't possible

scenario:
My guy uploads a video at say 2am.. the watermarking process can take until 2pm for all I care, and then the video would be 'published'..
as long as I don't have to touch it.

Well, as a video editor I will tell you that there is no way YET that you can watermark the VIDEO without having to re-render it.

Adding the flash is a good idea for the site, the only pitfall I could imagine is if people go into their cache and save the video to their HD, you're watermark will NOT be on it.

Unless you encode the video in flash, then thats a totally different ballgame, but then again, not everyone can/likes running flash.

IF you want to have a script made for your VIDEOS, the best way to do it is to find a programmer that can custom code one for you. Like the scripts people code for Photoshop.

I don't know if you can code those kind of scripts for Premiere, but I KNOW you can code some for After Effects (Adobe's compositing program) which is even better cause you can have an animated logo and basically make it look cooler.

I don't know any programmers that can do it off hand, but I'm sure that with the right amount of googling, you could find it.

If that interests ya TGF, contact me on ICQ, I'll help ya out with the research. Its something I've been wanting do to myself for some time, so it will give me a reason hehe

Why not batch it on your end maybe? Such as a batch file
1) do watermarking
2) do ftping

I thought ffmpeg might hold some hope since it says it supports flash format, but the details are beyond my scope since I never tried anything like it.
