It seems like everyone and their brother either has a blackberry or wants one.

Most of the PDA's I've looked at seem to have more features than the blackberry. Why is the blackberry the most popular one? Is there something I'm missing?

The people I know with them, myself included, use them primarily as a business tool. They do one thing well, corporate based e-mail. As a phone they suck ass unless you get the bluetooth headset (the internal speaker can barely be heard in a clean room at NASA, with tha volume all the way up).

The other things they do "pretty well" include a PDA that is quick and accurate, web browsing (high-speed), and they can do about 90% of the Windows mobile based hand-helds.

If you want a phone or a toy with an mp3 player or video tools, don't bother with the BB. If you want to stay connected to your buiness e-mail accounts in real-time and some other things like ICQ/AIM/MSN messenger(s), look at the BlackBerry.

* Don't spill beer on them, it makes the keys sticky...lol

Depending on the carrier you choose to go with there are a ton of them to choose from.

Check out http://www.discoverblackberry.com/devices/ they are all listed there with the respective uses for each unit. The ones at the top are a little smaller and better as a phone, but you give up the bigger and easier to use keyboard. BrettJ had one of these and would be able to tell you how they work in the long term. I have a 7290 which is the bigger one down at the bottom of the list. The 7200 series have a little bigger screen also. The only problem I can attest to is the volume issue I mentioned earlier, and they are not beer proof...lol

These are quad-band phones also, so they can be used anywhere in the World if necessary (although you may have to purchase a different SIM card).

Simple! Because 99% of the people are sheep, my guess is only about 10% of the people that have blackberries really need them.

The same with laptops, so many of my friends have them, and all of them simply use them as desktops, which makes no sense whatsoever.

The laptops are more expensive, you can't upgrade them (generally speaking), so unless you need them for presentations or travel a lot, there's no reason to buy one.

There is something like that out there, but you have to import it. I originally got the BB just so I could get the SIM card it came with. This other phone i wanted runs on Windows Mobile, and has a ton of toys and shit on it. It looks similar to the new Verizon multimedia handheld but it's 10x better. When I was trying to get the other phone all I knew was I needed the SIM and pop it out of the BB and into the other phone. However, within a few days I started to really like the BB so I put the other one off for a while. If I can remember where the other phone was advertised I will post it here.

I have a laptop and use it for desktop purposes because it would be very hard to sit a desktop computer on my lap and work while I am watching tv

the 7250 is the way to go.

it is the most functional and has the bluetooth support.

Like I said it seems like most of the other PDA's have more features/software etc to them.

I don't have corporate email, I'm a self employed webmaster. POP3 is fine for me.
