I honestly think that he takes so many pics in so many setting, so quickly, that he doesn't really bother adjusting the settings for each time he turns around

some are good, some are bad, I guess that is the chance you take for takin so many pics ion such high paced settings

Well, they seem alright to me, but if there was to be an argument made, I'm sure there could be many points to consider.

Many of his pics are taken at very dark parties and thus his flash would only be effective on those immediately in front of him at most.

He does 0 post processing as the demand to have the pics online the day after a 4 day convention are too great. So pics go straight to the gallery script.

He doesn't have time to sit and adjust settings on his camera to every lighting situation at every event he gets to (which tends to be about 4 or 5 dinners, parties, gatherings, convention floor, etc). He tends to go between all of the places that a webmaster might be at in very little time.

Just for example.

Many of his pics are taken at parties . . i was on a boat with him
and i could barely see where i was going - he doesnt always wanna
use flash i guess because he doesnt wanna spoil the atmosphere.

im not complaining i like his pics.. i was just going through a thread with loads of convention pics from different gfy'ers and i could pic out his without looking at the watermarks etc..

mrthumbs, I like to keep it as real as possible to capture the feeling of the party.Some of the events are pretty dark , dark celings dark clothes, hard to shoot black on black. Sometimes I do try and adjust for different settings,but mostly I try and keep it in focus. You do see some pics that are nice and light from others , but you would'nt know that the atmosphere of the party was totally different.The idea is (my idea)to capture as many events as possible in a single night, then get them up on the site post haste while its still topical.

That is not quite true, because I do go tru all the pics one last time and remove any obviously bad ones,but it gives you the essence of what we face.

JFK does a great job on his pics, never thought they were too dark? In fact, I think he does a great job of capturing the essence of the events he covers, which as ex-photographer I know is not always the easiest thing to do with pics...

I was going to say the same thing .. he works very fast ... I've seen him carry 2 camera's and I'm guessing that one is set for well lit area's and the other for darker but he works so fast that i can't see him adjusting for everything.

Also take into consideration that he takes many pics from others like BadDog and he only shoots on a little hand held Sony or canon .. nothing fancy .. I think the pics look great and if you ever get the chance to watch him work ... you'd be amazed at how that old goat gets around

That is a good idea. Put up a couple samples and it should be easy to figure out why the pic is dark.
