I have had that happen before. Sucks. I went almost 2 years without a single chargeback and then in one week had like 8. lol I think all the members have a meeting once a year to discuss how they are going to fuck you over.

People are just now having to pay their huge Christmas credit card bills, and the ones that know how to play the game call their card company and say "CCbill? never heard of it"--- and charge back.

Happens every year.

I've been watching the board to see if anyone else has noticed this same phenomenon.

Last year we had .01 % chargebacks and so far this year it's at 6.9 %.

I realize that it's still early in the game but it almost seems to me someone, somewhere, is e-mailing my long term subscribers and telling them to cancel or chargeback if they haven't visited the sites in a while.

I contacted CCBill about this and other matters before Christmas and was promised an immediate call back.

I'm still sitting here by the phone, waiting and watching.

Nice to know that others are in the same boat.

Alot of times you can fight chargebacks (or retrieval requests) and win some of them. We win about 25% of the ones that we fight.

Chargebacks are a fact of life, and it is getting worse as surfers get more experienced. As an affiliate, its best to put your traffic into a sponsor (and a billing company) that manages the sales vs. risk. The long-term thinkers don't accept every sale.

Actually there is a solution on the horizon, its called VBV(verified by Visa) or the MC equivalent 3DSecure(securecode). Its a zero liability system where the vendors have NO worry of a fraudulent chargebacks.

Although there hasn't been much discussion in the US or on the boards about it .. its already commonly used in many European countries. Its growing in popularity worldwide as Acquiring banks, merchants and end users begin to understand its qualities.

The customers/users are being educated to use this to prevent identity theft as well as shop online securely.

Merchants will begin to understand these authenticated transactions may not be charged back if the cardholder alleges they did not make or authorize the purchase - meaning .. NO LIABILITY for you

Many banks, processors (especially non US) and gateways have already been using this system for years and its continually spreading.

Think about it folks, if there is no liability, no worry of chargebacks ... what will change with reserves? The answer is, there will be no need for them - at least at the present popularity. Heck I contract with several banks that already offer no reserve for VbV or 3DS transactions

times are changing

Same here, last year overall I was at 0.3% and this year CHBs were insane compared to last year. Still not over 1%, but january was a lot worse than the previous months. I also think its just this month and everything goes back to normal soon.

i was just thinking that. if each customer had to verify their rebill, rebills would suffer greatly.

Correct, recurring billing is not possible with 3D secure transactions. I suspect now that Visa is moving so fast to an all VbV environment, that recurring billing is soon to be a thing of the past or at least morph into other billing type models.

I am seeing more and more merchants switch to what they are calling a multi month pricing system as a means to charge a bit more and retain the cardholder longer. Currently the average life of a recurring cardholder is down to 4.25 months .. a bit lower for the adult industry.

I'm not claiming that vbv is the perfect solution for the adult industry but I do believe the forward thinking in the industry are smart enough to cover all bases and take advantage of utilizing the benefits of each avenue.

Just as many currently offer several pricing choices they can simply add the multi-month option and reap rewards of daily payouts and no reserve on that aspect. There is no need to drop their current processing model but adding to it certainly can't hurt imho.
