F1 - San Marino

Imola will be rocking...

wish I could be there to see Schumi take this one as well...
Rubens is due for a good result and will take it to the limit, but so will the two BMWs and Mercedes...

it's certainly a great time to be alive

- Ferrari 1-2 at Fridays practice
- McLaren/Mercedes 4-5
- no Williams/BMWs in top 6

It'll be a top race... not to be missed.

especially when they are running the new cars. Both drivers have the new car? Or just Schumi?

Well, qualifying is over . . . and it looks like if you are not a Ferrari fan, you probably will not have much fun watching this race. Schumi will be difficult to catch, and VERY difficult to pass.

The only hope for McLaren and Williams will be to try something unusual, like 1 stop . . . or maybe 3. Barricello is due for a good finish after 4 straight DNFs as well. Chance for rain too. Schumi on the superior Bridgestone wets? Bye Bye!

1. M. Schumacher
2. Barricello
3. hmmmm . . . Montoya

Did you see that bullshit block Ervine pulled on Baricello? He lets Baby Schumi go by unimpeded, then noticed a Ferrari and decided he was going to bust balls. This is when he's being lapped!

I hope that egomaniac prick has DNF's from here on in.
He'll be lucky if he's still number one driver on that team by seasons end.

Boy, once Baricello got ahead of Rolf, he opened up a big lead. Looks like a monster season for Ferrari. McLaren needs to find more power from their Mercedes engines.

At least Montoya and Schumi didn't touch this race.

I'm getting bored with F1,
To make it more interesting they should rename it "The Schumi Show" and get a bunch of clowns to play chicken on the start /finish line.

That race was a fucking parade...ah well.

Remember way back when Ferraris used to throw drive shafts across the pitlane and you could always tell when the Ferraris were going to pit cos the mechanics started putting out their cigarettes.

You know there was a time when it wasn't easy to be a Schumi fan. At least there are some twisty tracks coming up...

eh, it all comes in cycles. Mario A. kicking ass for Lotus. Remember when Renault was the first turbo racers? Buzzing around in the black and yellow cars, sounding like angry hornets.

I remember when Nikki Lauda and Alain Prost started to kick ass with McLaren, knocking off BMW/Williams. Then Senna became #1, and Prost went to Ferrari, and couldn't beat them. Then Williams came back strong, then back to McLaren (Mikka winning ALL the damn time)

You get some blips (like Villenuve winning), but it seems like teams dominate for 2-3 years. McLaren has had several dominant runs over the past 10-15 years.

Who knows what will happen in the next 1-2 years. I still don't rule out McLaren pushing the Ferrari team. It's a long season.

They really need to make some changes to that track. It's as bad as monaco when it comes to passing.

There are far too few overtaking places if you combine all the tracks. That's what needs to be changed in F1. Races now-a-days are won during qualifying.

Nikki Lauda was one of the greates drivers to watch. Always qualified mid field, and made it to the front by displaying guts, determination and heart. Montoya reminds he of him, except for the attitude.

I'd have to agree with you marty, on all counts. They need to greatly widen some of these chicanes to give drivers a chance of making a pass without getting a DNF for their trouble. It is sad to say, but NASCAR has much more passing than F1. The majority of racing is done in qualifying and pit stops.

And Nikki Lauda kicked ass. I still remember his ESPN special on the difference between F1 and "real world" cars. They had him sitting at a table, sipping tea, while they sent off a Ford, and then a Porsche 928 on the Neurenburg, or Silverstone track. Both cars were over halfway around the track before Lauda started putting on his gloves and helmet. The helicopter showed the 928 pass the Ford, and then the McLaren blasted past both cars like they were standing still.

At that time, the 928 was regarded as the fastest production car in the world. Lauda was finishing his tea when the other two cars ended their lap.
