Television Sucks These Days

Yes, I'm complaining. I don't get much down time, so I don't have a whole lot of time to watch television, but is it asking soooooooooo much to have one decent movie on all the channels I have? Or a television show that isn't a repeat or a cloned CSI/Law and Order? Or a decent comedy?

24 is the best show on TV. New season just started here.

The Shield is up there too and just started the new season as well.

Get a Tivo.

We _are_ talking about programming that was generally set up to turn a profit and appeal to the masses, so at any random point, especially if you don't have cable, you're likely to find nothing but crap on.

But, for comedies, I'm personally a big fan of "My Name is Earl", the Simpsons (my Tivo _always_ has like 10 episodes of it ready to go thanks to syndication) and "Scrubs".... used to fill my TiVo up with Mash, too, before I saw every syndicated episode 10 times.

And ya outside the realm of comedy, excluding the CSI/L&A shows: 24.... if you're missing it, you're missing the best show on T.V., hands down, imho.

If you want more varied good T.V., get cable and check out Battlestar Galactica on SciFi, or just about any HBO original programming, I think.

Oooh - lots of great shows! The Flip this/that House shows, Inked, The Shield, 24, Rescue Me, Deadwood, Gilmore Girls (yes, I love that show!), etc. etc. etc. TiVo is the greatest thing in the world - you only spend 40 minutes watching an hour long TV show

no shit!! i have 70 channels or something and i can't find one decent program that isn't on commercial for 15 minutes out of the 30 its supposedly on. i just simply quit watching it except for the select few like football and the occasional basketball game.

everyone hates spam but yet we allow it to flood television for 50% of all air time. lol and we throw people in jail for doing it on the internet....

This skin is giving me seizures.....

You're right. Everyone has made some great suggestions and I've got dvr, so I can record shows...

I guess I'm tired of television. Never did watch it much....Family Guy is cool. So is Boston Legal and Desperate Housewives...but I've had enough medical to last a lifetime...and the shoot 'em ups and cop shows ..there are only so many plots.

Showtime, Cinemax, Starz, Encore, and HBO play the same damned movies for months on end...and On Demand, well...that's just a joke.

Like that even relates. Unlike spam, comercials just happen to be the main point of television. The shows between comercials are just there to keep you watching.

I wish I were kidding you. But don't let looks deceive. Just because we have thirty more channels just means we have thirty more channels of drivel.

I agree.

Eventually the plan is to have people do their own program schedule from every movie ever made with fiber optic HD VOD broadcasting via the Net.

There are a good few shows on in between all the crap. It's all those hospital dramas that I can't stand..there are way too many of them on.
The only tv i watch really nowadays is the news and a few good movies and sitcoms.

I'm sorry but I love watching CSI. A week is not complete without viewing it.. But CSI Miami is not as good as CSI New York.

Aside from CSI, I enjoy watching reality shows such as Fear Factor and Amazing Race.

They dont make many good movies anymore, the few they do make do very well, so they arent cheap enough to show on TV for years and years

I only like watching reality tv shows and movies. I HATE sitcoms and comedies, some series are ok such as Desperate Housewives and Alias. My main addiction these days is Reality TV, I just can't get enough of The Barkers, Making The Band, Laguna Beach, I'll watch just about any cheesey reality show on mtv, I can't help myself... it's like crack...

Nice to hear that I am not the only one....

I do like CSI and Boston Legal....I'm just tired of the cloned shows for csi and law and order...hospital shows are okay ....but enough already...come up with another St. Elsewhere or nypd blue or hill street blues...

Yeah, I was looking for books, Jack, darling, and got many many responses...I have a list a mile long now....

Sometimes I just to turn off and tune out. Damn. I miss Sex and the City.

While you can channel surf and not come across anything spectacular at that moment I will have to say the quality of television IMO has improved.

I don't know how old you are but when I was a kid we had 3 network stations, ABC, CBS, NBC, 1 PBS station and 2 independent station. Yes that's 6 stations.

The networks showed the network fare. On Weekends it was nothing but sports, fishing shows etc. Boring as hell for a little kid.

PBS. Forget about it.

The independent stations.
1 showed nothing but old tv show reruns and the weekends they filled it with westerns.
The other not much better, and on weekends if you liked Lawrence Welk or Hee Haw you would be one happy little camper.

Now days I flip on the channel and I can see high quality television covering almost any subject I would be interested in.

Look at all of the educational channel that make PBS almost obsolete. TLC, Discovery, The History Channel, all of their sister channels like Times Discovery which shows excellent documentaries all day long.

You even have movie channels broken down into niches...LOL.
Westerns, Black, classic, mystery, love...My God there's plenty of stuff to watch.

Sure if you want to talk about specific network tv shows. The problem is there's so much to watch some of the quality stuff gets lost in the noise. Shows like Arrested Development.

Anyway be glad you have your interwebs and your cable tv...LOL It could be worse. We could still be drawing stick figures on cave walls.
