Ferrari owners, please come in here - some serious questions

Hello,

I know this is possibly the dumbest forum to ask it but I know there are some ferrari owners in here.

I am wondering what the common problems are with ferraris in general?
What kind of costs am I looking at yearly for repairs/service etc?

And I'm especially interested in knowing about common problems with the 355 and 360.

Yes, I've asked at the dealership too but I want to hear it from non biased owners.

Thanks for your help. I know most (ex) owners say they suck but I'm still interested in the answers

regards,
Mike

You're not gonna buy a yellow one are you? That seems like a common problem.

Frank's right. If people would stop buying yellow cars, maybe they'd stop making them.

One of Ferrari's most serious problems in that the engine, arguably especially in the 355, causes problems with speed cameras.

Many of my Ferrari owning friends have encounters these problems, so I would definitely take this into account when you plan on buying a Ferrari.

If your penis is small, buy a dick stretcher from www.fastsize.com. Its a hell of a lot cheaper than a Ferrari. (and it won't get keyed at the mall)

The costs of maintenance will vary a lot based on what vintage and model you go with. Some of them require a full engine out maintenance at 15k and that will set you back quite a bit.

The newer models 360,360cs,430 are much more drivable and maintenance friendly.
I test drove a 360 last year before buying my Lambo. The 360 really didn't seem fast to me.Very smooth power band.
If you have a lot of technical questions about individual models hit me on icq(four one four zero one six two) and I can steer you to the proper forums where the real experts reside.

no engine problems, just take it easy when its cold. Yearly maintanance will set you back around 5k a year and around 10k every third year.

It's 30 years since I owned a 246 Dino and anyway the problem I experienced was one which seemed to afflict high-performance cars in general, not just Ferraris. But it was that whenever I could only drive around the city for more than a couple of weeks, the engine would start to run very rough. It was easily enough taken care of with a late-night run up a motorway, but still a pain.

Owning that car was the fulfillment of a 10-year-old dream and the car itself was everything I expected. But I lived in London then and once the novelty wore off, the attention became tiresome, driving it in traffic most of the time was hard work and I really didn't enjoy being constantly in other drivers' blind spots. After about 6 months I replaced it with an XJ12 and drove Jaguars right up until I moved to the US a few years ago: not near as good for posing or having some fun when the law wasn't looking, but an all-around much better car to use every day.

a dino isnt a 360 you know that too... anyhow Id pick a XJ over a dino for sure, ok a dino looks amazing but Ferraris are costly to maintain worse then a Jag, I know a guy who has a Countach, its always in the garage.

These cars are nice if you have serious cash to maintain them. 20k for a service is kinda normal for a Ferarri if you need some stuff done, tires etc too.

*Attention F355 owners : We currently offer a complete Head Rebuild along with a Major Service for F355's. F355's built between 1995 to early 1998 have the well known "inferior" valve guides orginally used by Ferrari, and the heads on these cars will not last. This complete service includes completely removing and rebuilding the heads along with a complete Major Service and a water pump and front seal. This particular type of Major Service with Head Rebuild is approximately $11995. Note: Cars with higher mileage may require bottom end work which is extra.

Ever wonder why so many high end car buyers put them up for sale after only a year or two?

Save yourself the headaches. They are fun cars to drive but the costs of ownership are exhorbinant as is insurance, speeding tickets, and high speed collision risks.

Best thing to do is to just have lots of rich friends that have them and go for a drive with them instead. Guys with Ferrari's, Lambos, etc. always love showing off their wheelz with free rides for friends.

I didn't read the whole thread so forgive me if I repeat something.

I have a Ferrari F430 spider, I highly recommend this model. In either the spider or coupe version. However I know the price isn't very comparable to a 360 and definitely not a 355.

I know owners of both 360's and 355's and from what they all tell me, you definitely want to go with the 360.

If you are getting a F1 transmission, definitely stay away from the 355. The F1 transmission wasn;t advanced enough yet in that model. There is a noticeable delay in shifting much unlike in the F430.

In short if you want a ferrari just to have one, get an older 360 coupe. If you are a serious Ferrari fanatic I would do whatever you can to get yourself in the F430.

Thanks for the advice, you aren't the first one who told me to stay away from the 355. I'll definitely keep that and the F1 problem in mind
