Laptop wont shutoff, hoping for help.

ok after searching the net everywhere for help, and trying many thing, I come to gfy for help.. my laptop will not shut off, it shuts down and than the fans kick in high, my power button stays lit.. i have to take out the plug and battery for it to go off, and when i put the power back it loads back up.

before xmas I decided to do a restore with the discs that alienware sent to me.. ever since than I been having problems

my sound clips, my sound blaster card wont work, my led clock on front wont turn on, dvd drive works sometimes need to keep rebooting to make it work.

any ideas.. Im willing to try anything... besides shipping it away to be fixed.. buying a new one is going to happen soon.. alienware rot in hell. their support sucks really bad btw.

I had some similar problems with a Sony VAIO laptop. I went to the MS site and updated the OS and there were a few things in there that specifically addressed the issue you are mentioning. I would suggest after your re-fromat you should go right to MS and update Windows.

If your fan is kicking in right away it could be a heat problem also.

I had to replace my laptop just before Vegas because it started to overheat for some weird reason which im sure had nothing to do with it being on 24/7/365 LOL

Regards,

Lee

You are required to manually reset the bios. This involves manupilating jumpers inside your laptop. It might be wise of you to seek professional help.

Right-click on My Computer, click Properties, click the Advanced tab. Under "Startup & Recovery," click Settings. Under "System Failure," uncheck the box in front of "Automatically restart."

If this does not make a difference, there may be something in your BIOS which is causing this.

Just buy a new laptop. Imagine the time you spend to fix it and can't do other
work. A brandnew laptop will be cheaper.

Perhaps you have some 'wake on' settings, such as wake on lan, wake on USB, etc etc.?

For example if your laptop is not connected to the network does this problem still occur?

Check that and also try to disable all power management settings in the bios.
