Anyone ever get an old-school (early 90's) convertible top fixed?

It's a 1992 Ford Mustang and the top won't come down when you press the button for it to go down.

All that happens is an audible click in the back.

Looking into buying a fun cheap project car, but I'm curious on whether or not this is a really expensive thing to fix.

Been searching all over Google with no luck...

Anyone know about how much this'll cost to fix (estimation) ?

Probably it's the motor for the hydraulic system that is bad. As long as the convertible frame looks in good shape it's not that bad to fix. Convertible motor can be replaced for about $530, the whole system with hydraulic cylinder, lines, and motor would be around $800.

Thanks man - think it's possible to lower and raise it manually until I can get an appointment? Or would that do more damage...

You can raise and lower it manually, but you will have to disconnect the motor from the top first.

There is normally a release valve to allow you to manually move it. Look around back by the motor in the trunk, or under the black covering that hides the hydraulics etc.

Ok, alright - let me ask you this... would you agree that cassettes are old school?

I would; just the same as when cassettes first came out, 8 tracks were old school after a bit.
