				 | For Those Of Us Born Before 1975 ....... First, we survived being born to mothers who smoked and/or drank while they carried us. They took aspirin, ate blue cheese dressing and didn't get tested for diabetes. Then after that trauma, our baby cribs were covered with bright colored lead-based paints. We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, doors or cabinets and when we rode our bikes, we had no helmets, not to mention, the risks we took hitchhiking. As children, we would ride in cars with no seat belts or air bags. Riding in the back of a pick up on a warm day was always a special treat. We drank water from the garden hose and NOT from a water bottle. We shared one soft drink with four friends, from one bottle, and NO ONE actually died from this. We ate cupcakes, bread and butter and drank soda pop with sugar in it, but we weren't overweight because WE WERE ALWAYS OUTSIDE PLAYING! We would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were back when the streetlights came on. No one was able to reach us all day. And we were O.K. We would spend hours building our go-carts out of scraps and then ride down the hill, only to find out we forgot the brakes. After running into the bushes a few times, we learned to solve the problem. We did not have Playstations, Nintendo's, X-boxes, no video games at all, no 99 channels on cable, no DVD's or video tape movies, no surround sound, no cell phones, no personal computers, no Internet no IPods or MP3 players. WE HAD FRIENDS . . . we went outside and found them! We fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth and there were no lawsuits from these accidents. We made up games with sticks and tennis balls and ate worms and although we were told it would happen, we did not put out very many eyes, nor did the worms live in us forever. We rode bikes or walked to a friend's house and knocked on the door or rang the bell, or just walked in and talked to them! Little League had tryouts and not everyone made the team. Those who didn't had to learn to deal with disappointment. Imagine that!! The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke the law was unheard of. They actually sided with the law! This generation has produced some of the best risk-takers, problem solvers and inventors ever! The past 50 years have been an explosion of innovation and new ideas. We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learned HOW TO DEAL WITH IT ALL! If you are over 35, you might want to share this with others who have had the luck to grow up as kids, before the lawyers and the government regulated our lives for our own good.

				 | oh, people born in 1975 had plenty of access to videogames and a bunch of other things listed. In the last paragraph - "over 35" is actually 1970.. and given this is at least five years old they really mean 1965. 70's people, lets not buy into this blowhard boomer bullshit |

				 | True. However, in day-to-day life... should a problem arise... let's say... a long queue in the supermarket because of a slow employee, packs of black kids roaming around the mall, seeing a friend or relative become successful or achieve something (jealousy)... even drama threads on GFY... it's always the 30-40 year olds that have the biggest mouths & cry the loudest. Keep your eyes open, and you will see it. |

				 | For Those Of Us Born After 1975 ....... Indigo advocates believe that many children born after 1975 possess an Indigo-color aura around them and unique almost supernatural traits. To the rest of the world, these kids may appear to be unruly and their parents may have gone overboard in the coddling of their children. Indigo kids bristle at authority and have little patience. Their advocates say they act like royalty and have no guilt. Simple acts, like waiting in lines, drive them crazy. Their parents are sure they can see the future and talk to angels. INDIGO CHILDREN Have strong self esteem, connection to source Know they belong here until they are told otherwise Have an obvious sense of self Have difficulty with discipline and authority Refuse to follow orders or directions Find it torture to waiting in lines, lack patience Get frustrated by ritual-oriented systems that require little creativity Often see better ways of doing thing at home and at school Are mostly nonconformists Do not respond to guilt trips, want good reasons Get bored rather easily with assigned tasks Are rather creative Are easily distractible, can do many things at once Display strong intuition Have strong empathy for others or NO empathy Develop abstract thinking very young Are gifted and/or talented, highly intelligent Are often identified or suspected of having ADD or ADHD, but can focus when they want to Are talented daydreamers and visionaries Have very old, deep, wise looking eyes Have spiritual intelligence and/or psychic skills Often express anger outwardly rather than inwardly and may have trouble with rage Need our support to discover themselves Are here to change the world - to help us live in greater harmony and peace with one another and to raise the vibration of the planet

I was born in 64 and I used to open the child proof medicine bottles for elder family members, everyone was put on a little league team, many of my friends were fat, quite a few had cable TV, and I had video games, in fact I just got them again for Christmas, pong is very cool on a 65 in HDTV. Need to change 75 to 55 and this will be more accurate. | |

I was born in '75 and that list pretty much sums it perfectly . Oh, and don't forget: We woke up early on Saturday morning and watched (non-educational) cartoons on all 3 major stations.

				 | On the flip side, kids today have excellent eye hand coordination. They've put risky sports on the map..... If I were to change anything, it would be to make them exercise more as children..so they don't have the obesity problem facing this, and other nations. I don't think we can be 'out of touch' with our kids anymore....and I don't think doors can be left unlocked in this day and age. I do think that the overmedication of today's generations has to stop...and this belief that there is something wrong with our kids has to stop..they aren't hyperactive...they just need to go outside and run around in circles for a few hours a day.... There is as much right about those born after '75 as there was wrong with those born before. But, great nostalgia if you don't look too closely, CTB....it always looks so much better in hindsight.

Sometimes I think we've gone too far the other way, although you're right. There was a real fine line between physical punishment and downright abuse.

				 | Ah.. good times, good times... I've read that before, but it's still a great post. My nieces and nephews don't even know what a record album is. I'd still rather go to a concert and look out and see a sea of flames from cig lighters than a bunch of cell phone lights. That is so tragic. |
