Go for the first one -- it's YOUR preference and YOU are the one doing the work!

When I'm done with the floor the countertops are next, then the backsplash which is gonna be a real pain doing that on a diagonal. |

You would not believe the amount of money tile installers wanted for the job. For the floors, countertops, and backsplash, then grouted and sealed $4500-8000 Plus the cost of materials.
That price also included a new sub-floor which I had to put down. But if I had like 3 day laborers working with me, it could have be done in 3 days. |

I kinda like the second one, lol. Will the tiles all be the same color? Or will the smaller ones be in a different color?
Let me share this with you- If you've had tile counter tops then just ignore it, but if not, I would strongly advise you to think hard about it. I did them in the first house I lived in, and I fucken HATED them once they were done. They were a bitch to keep clean and the grout gets yucky, no matter what color you use. Every time you wipe a rag across them, it pushes wet crumbs and whatever else is on the counter, right in between the tiles. They just felt and looked dirty *all* the time, to me. The tile backsplash looked great, but the counters were a nightmare. If I wouldn't have moved, I seriously would have ripped them all out, even though I was so excited when I first had them put in.

This is a kitchen right? I'd go for one that's easiest to clean. Don't want to stain the grout if your pot of Sunday gravy for your Manicotti slips out of your hand.

To be completely honest, I don't really like either but this is a conundrum I face almost daily.
Do you (a) put your foot down and exert your dominance over her or (b) submit to her by letting her have her way because it will make her happy.

Same thing with the grout happend abt 8 years ago when I did it last. The new pre mixed grout with sealer is "supposed" to last 20 years. Besides we are selling the house soon so it won't be my problem anymore ![]() |
