I have directv, I pay for it

I want to be able to watch it on my computer....actually, I just want to be able to listen to the XM radio that is included with it most of all

I have a tv tuner card and all that, but I want to get the directv signal

You should be able to run a cable from the DTV box to a tuner card

Dont think so. I was thinking maybe if you had an extra box laying around you could use that. I know I have one and was thinking about this before I for Sirius

Ill check it out sometime. I havent even turned XM on since I got Sirius. And even that I only listen to the 2 Stern channels and Hair Nation lol

Duh?... You need the box and the dish to get the satellite signal.

You also need a valid card to access the signal.

There are some wireless devices that will relay the signal from your "box" to the the computer if you don't want to run cable, but you will lose some quality.

I realize most of what you are saying, but I guess I just can't believe in this day and age that someone, or directv, hasn't made a computer adapter that acts as a signal translator for a computer

seem silly to me...if I was directv, i would offer a hardware pci card or even an external usb directv box for computers

good thinking on the relay device though....but I would actually have to get up and get into the other room to change the channel, and that would get annoying

They make infrared transmitter relays as well, so you cold click the remote at your desk to change the channel. Smarthome.com's prices are high, but they usually have a good selection of this sort of stuff.

Actually I have a Sony directTV receiver that uses RF for the remote..... so I don't have to go to the other room to change channels. Works throughout the house. Thats one solution.

so would I. Hell I guess I could hook up one of the 4 extra receivers I have and put it on my backup pc.

There are DVB PCI cards available which will allow you to watch satellite on your PC without an IRD. You just need a dish and an LNB and some RG-6 cable.

Although I do not believe that it will work for DirecTV but they do work for FTA so you can pickup Dishnet signals.

Or you can ask DirecTV to send you another tuner (cheap) and hook it directly into the TV tuner card on your PC (if you have one). Works like a charm too.

Heck, I have XTV (ITVN / IPTV) on both my PC in my office and on my TV in my livingroom via wireless ethernet bridge connections.

If you can manage to get your XM radio ID write it down and go to
www.xmradio.com/xstream and sign up for free using your radio ID, you can then listen to streaming XM on your computer. Be sure and select High Bandwidth Usage in the settings menu for the best quality. Might be a cheaper easier solution to listen to XM on your comp.
