My neighbor has a rot, same with another neighbor back in hawaii when i lived there.
Great dogs, happy slappy stupid (dogs rock), but in hawaii, my neighbor's got loose, and pretty much ate someones cat. Zoinks! Not sure if they are all like that or not. : ) If you want one so bad, get it. Pets are always worth it. |

all I have to say , is please make sure your ready to give it the attention it needs. Rots are beautifull dogs and one of my favorites. Everywhere I have lived always has a family and a dog next door, most people don't take care of their dogs correctly and it breaks my heart.. so please, train it right and excersize it.
All in all, Rots are great dogs and worth having, they are so loving and all that. It's worth it ![]() |

Why not take a trip down to the local humae society? When we were looking for our dog (some cocksucker stole it right the fuck out of the yard), I saw a number of Rotts, among other good breeds.

Yea, make sure you train it right.
![]() Any dog can be trained, especially if you get them when they're puppies. Do it right when they're little and they're great dogs for the rest of their lives. Don't do it, and it's years of bs that was avoidable.

In my opinion, I want to get this lil rottie when he is 8 wks old, and start immediately training him. Rotties can be very intimidating after about a years growth lol. I will be home with him constantly, so it will be easy. I cant wait, I am so excited to get him,, I did think about going to the animal shelter, but like i stated earlier ,, I want to get him very young. I was given a doberman/rottie mix one time and she was 2 years old, I felt really scared of her because she was very hyper and possibly had been an "outside" dog, So i had to find her a good home. She was so huge, and would knock me down when I tried to pet her. Feeding time was unreal LOL |

Hi Hot Tropical Babes - I'm a Rottie owner, and I can not tell you what a joy AND a handful these guys can be! I wouldn't trade him for the world though.
![]() We adopted ours from a local shelter (six months ago) when he was only 10 months old. He was the "victim" of a divorce. Neither person could take them where they were moving to. ![]() We were lucky, in that his previous owners had him neutered, housebroken, crate trained and had just begun obedience training with him, when he was placed in the shelter. Oh, and he's also AKC registered. They even gave all of his vet records, akc paperwork and even the original bill of sale from the breeder to the shelter for who ever adopted him. So, at least we know his "history". I had never owned a Rottie before this, only shepards and dobermans. As a Rottie owner, I can safely say that it would be in your best interest to pick up the book "Rottweilers For Dummies" and to also check out http://www.rottweiler.net. Both have proven to be invaluable resources for me when I was a newbie Rottie owner, and I still sometimes look things up in the Dummies book when he does something out of character. ![]() Also, I hope you and your hubby have strong personalities, because the rottie WILL challenge your position in "the pack". Don't ever let them think they've got the upper hand on you in any situation - it will only lead to behavorial problems down the road. Here's a pic of our "baby" ![]() ![]() I wish you the best of luck in finding your new "baby". I'd love to hear how you make out, keep me posted please. Deb |

ya, i only get my dogs from animal shelters, i hate pet stores, i feel bad looking at animals sitting in those small cages all day long.
atleasy if you get on from a shelter you are saving its life. i have 2 dogs that were abused, and were timid at first. but now they are great. just takes some love. ![]() |

I don't like bred dogs. They should be a mix, like mine. No inherited diseases or hip-problems or whatever. My doggy didn't even get a scratch when I accidentally kicked him in the head and broke a bone in my toe.
![]() The dog is the smartest person in my appartement too. ![]()

I have a rott and German Sheppard mix, She is Rott at heart and looks nothing like neither breeds Don?t ask ;-))
But she is 7 months old and goes everywhere with me, I didn?t know she was so protective till my cousin walked in the house with out knocking once, the dog looked at me to see if I was ok with him being there, but when he walked it in kinda startled me (gay porn on my computer screen) and Sadie (dog) Jumped at him and had him pinned in the corner. No biting but she even scared me. I personally Trained here and perform dominance down almost daily to keep her in her role. But definitely the most loyal dogs in the world! She walks me daily and chases the horses ;-)) |

With rots you need to watch the dogs they hang out with too, my friend had one named Duke, and it was the sweetest dog till it started hanging out with some of our other friends dogs, and its attitude seemed to change, like they told him he was supposed to be mean, then he started doing mean shit, he got into a fight with my friends pit, and we tried to break it up but he ended up almost killing the pit, then like 2 days later, he put his head up on the kitchen table and stole my friends steak right off his plate, and when he yelled at him, Duke started growling at him.
And JESUS CHRIST can those dogs fart, he would lie in the kitchen and rip one and we had to clear the house. |

yepyep. Make sure he knows you're the boss.
Personally, I do stuff like take his toys away, take his food away, roll him on his back and make him show me his belly til I say he can stop, pick him up and hold him on his back up in the air...stuff like that. When he's little you have to do all kinds of stuff to reinforce the idea that you're the dominant one, and he's the lesser one. It seems mean taking his little toy away when he's 15lbs and all cute and adorable when he's a puppy, but when he's bigger and weighs 110 lbs and is chewing on something he found and you can just take it out of his mouth to find out what it is without him growling at you because he thinks you're challenging his authority, you'll be happy. Crate train him, too. That should be a mandatory thing for all puppies.

![]() Hey Everyone, You all are the bomb! Thanks for sharing your comments, stories and pics. Keep them coming, I love it! I love all dogs, but really want a rottie pup. I am really in love with my father in laws Rottie "Chester". Chester visits me quite frequently and we love him.
My father in law lives on the intercoastal in boca/delray and we were visiting one time. My daughter was barely walking and she got to close to the water, Well Mister Chester stayed between her and the water. I was out there, but i watched him to see how he would act. and man, he was "johnny on the job" ![]() Also, I have also have a 19 year old son, in which he loves to give me a "hard time". Well on thanksgiving day, My son walked in, started teasing at me, and when i yelled at him, Chester chased him to the bathroom and wouldnt let him out until i came to the rescue LOL. Hey Deb, your pic didnt load, but i am dying to see it.. send it too me via icq or email if you want ![]() |

I love Rotties, I've been trying to convince my gf to let me have one for a while now, as she's in love with the Standard Poodle (not the stupid miniature ones, the big ones, which are really damn smart and non-yappy).
My father used to have a Dobie/Heeler cross and a Rottie.. And the Rottie was a real sweetie. She'd bark fearsomely at people who came near her territory, but she was afraid of most people. ;> I guess she'd been abused before we adopted her. I hope to get a Rottie soon, probably as puppies with my GFs standard poodle. ;> Cheers, Backov

You're 100% right about them needing to be trained "the right way". That's why I made it a point to mention the rottweiler website and book to her, because they both make it known that training is a MUST. I can't begin to tell you how many different levels of training classes we've gone to with our rottie. But, the outcome has been a loving, gentle, protective, obedient addition to our family. ![]() |
