Which is more important to you?

If you can only choose ONE, which element is more important for your business:

New Ideas OR A lot of energy/enthusiasm (that doesn't burn out) OR Capital ?

Explain why. There's really no right or wrong answer Let's just brainstorm

Personally, I'll take constant energy. While new ideas are great, they only have value if they are executed. That takes energy. Moreover, if you have a lot of energy, your activities will bring you to many problem solving situations and these give rise to new ideas and innovations. As for capital, capital may BUY a huge headstart but it also insulates one from the small details and nuances that starting small and scaling up affords.

Your thoughts?

For me it would be new ideas. They are exciting and can rejuvenate you. New ideas can bring you countless people that are excited and energetic about them as well as land you the capital to put them into action.

A lot of energy/enthusiasm (that doesn't burn out)

if you're out of money-making ideas then there's something really wrong with you ;)

take a pen and wite down all the GFYers that make good money (easy to spot the bullshitters) and right next to each (nick)name write down what they do in order to make those money and 'bingo' ...... ;)

You can have all the capital in the world, but without new ideas you won't expand on that capital.

I'll take new ideas and unique, innovative concepts any day.

But I won't say no to the capital to go along with it.

Capital.... It's easy to invest in another's great ideas while having a team together that can bring those ideas to life. Aside from that, the Capital allows you to have your hand in many cookie jars while having a right hand man oversee operations.

A lot of people have great ideas, but no capital to pursue them.

Good points, ASM. I know new ideas are very exhilarating and definitely can recharge a person. However, this does beg the question: "How original is 'original'?" Have we reached a point mentioned in an REM song where (paraphrasing) "If one has a mouth, then one can speak about what's been talked about before... If one has a brain, then one has thought about ideas that have been thought before"? Basically, ideas are the same as anyone's ideas until they are IMPLEMENTED. Agree or disagree?

Another issue with ideas is that perhaps too much analysis leads to paralysis?

Ideas in general are never truly original most of the time. At best they are applying a new twist or process to something that has been done over and over again. Excluding sciences and other such topics of course. The internet for example is just another twist on what Johannes Gutenberg envisioned and before him it was outsourced monk labor. Now we have people using outsourced monk labor so to speak to use the internet which is just non original ideas used in a creative and new way.

Though just having a brain does not lead to having ideas or even all the ideas possible. Some or even many are just not gifted in this area of thought.

Ideas though are nearly living creatures, when an ideas time has come it will find a way to materialize and become real. Many may have had this idea and most will not have done anything with it. Ideas can gain momentum and a life of their own. So along with an idea you need the thought process required to see what the idea is, what it can do, and how to allow it to come forth from thought.

Now in your original list you left off the one I would choose over ideas, capital, and endless energy. That being of course willpower.

ASM, very true regarding the novelty of ideas. Indeed, many ideas implemented and applied to one problem set evolved for another purpose. Zippers and fireworks are the first things to come to mind, there's tons of others. Good point re outsourced monk labor

Willpower is definitely key. I didn't think of that specifically. I guess I subsumed it under "energy."

I belive that good ideas alone are useless unless you have the motivation and willpower to put them in practise.

So basicly out those 3 I don't think "New Ideas OR A lot of energy/enthusiasm " could go alone, unless you like beeing exploited ;)

After Shock Media - I was told one day "You don't need to have a never-was-done idea, its the way you deliver and do it with inovation that matters"

Definitely, energy and willpower. Almost all of us know what to do to succeed and only a few of us actually do that.

All are important. You can grow your capital without new ideas. You can develop your ideas without much capital, or you could always find some funds. Without energy though you don't move, no matter what direction. I'd go for energy first, and ideas, capitals second.
