Opera 8 vs. Firefox 1.5

I have been using firefox for some time. However the memory leak in 1.5 seems to be a bit nuts. So I just got Opera 8 and am giving it a spin. It seems to have all the same features as firefox really but looks a bit cleaner to me and so far does not seem to be chewing up to much memory.

I also like how the status bar in Opera can be hidden but piops up while a page loads. That seems like a nice feature.

I was wondering what some of you thought about Opera. Advantages and dissadvantages compared to Firefox? Any known issues with Opera worth knowing about?

Firefox > *

1)Type about:config into the location bar and press enter
2)Right click any line to bring up a sub-menu
3)Choose "new">"integer"
4)paste this into the dialogue that appears: browser.cache.memory.capacity
5)Next click Okay
6)Specify the amount in kb (about 16000 should do) in the next dialogue that appears
7)Restart Firefox and happy surfing.

u know what, I'm a huge firefox fan, been a donator, know alot of ppl involved with the project, but I have noticed 1.5 feels more sluggish then last few revisions, so I fired up Opera last night and am starting to use it more. I had a ff process up to 779,000 couple of nights ago.

Hi Fetish, I tried that with 1.5 and it didn't seem to do any good. I checked a few other message boards about this and it seems to not work with 1.5 Maybe I am wrong though and thanks for your helpful reply.

Yea I have been a fan of FF for a long time. I have not used IE in ages and don't miss it. However, I had the same thing. I noticed my fan kept firing up loud after browsing in FF for awhile and I looked at my mem usage and FF was up to like 160,000.

Im jumping on the memory leak train here. Maybe I'll use Opera more often, at this point the only firefox plugin that I can use is the google tool bar. Everything else pretty much nets me on average 290,000k plus mem leaks.

Yea it sucks because I had gotten so use to Firefox. Looks like I'll stick with Opera till FF fixes the hole.

I use Opera and FF. Mostly a FF user. But I do think that Opera is a bit faster and is much cleaner/crisper looking, colors, etc. I have been using Opera a bit more of late because of memory issues.

IE, what's that? ;)
