CMS scripts such as Joomla/Mambo and so on..

Is there anyone here that uses a CMS script such as Joomla or Mambo on a high traffic site? Meaning a site of at least 50k uniques or more to the front page with say an overall page views across the entire site in the 150k or more?

I'm looking at using a CMS script such as joomla or Mambo on a site that will do this kind of traffic and I'm wondering if it will kill the server on that kind of load. The site will also possibly be 100's of pages deep over time.

Is there a CMS script that can handle that kind of traffic and still be able to grow into a bigger site?

Needs to be SEO friendly as well with out killing the server with mod rewites.

Any suggestions based on experience?

I use Joomla alot , but for mainstream sites ... Traffic is not as high as what you are asking...

Also, I use this one in a 60 gigs member section with no bad issue:

http://www.phpwcms.de/

Looks like you will have to try it....

Yea that's what I'm worried about.. I've played around with joomla quite a bit and it will do everything I want. I'm just not sure how well it will handel a high traffic site, so I'm a bit worried on that end.

BTW I've never actually went live with a Joomla site, I've just played with it on diffrent domains and so on. How does it do on the internal pages with the SE traffic?

Does well. There is a function in the admin for that:

---> site ---> global configuration ---> seo .

You can make the pages SE friendly and get the page titles to reflect the content. ( you must activate the .htaccess file ). Instructions are pretty clear.

If you want to try live, I have auto install on my servers with Fantastico. Cheap way of setting up, then moving to your box.

Or if you have an extra IP , use that to setup on your box.

Joomla is very nice.

Was looking into a answer for this for a "database product entry" sort of site!

Yea I know about that SEO option in Joomla but doesn't that ad a mod rewrite to the .htaccess for every page that you add?

Fris it's going to be somewhat of a hybrid TGP/Babelog style site but it will have more than just that.. So I dunno what to call it..

So it will end up with quite a bit of traffic across the site so I can't have a script that will be a hog.

Mambo (Joomla) + tons of traffic = crap

thats part experience and part opinion.

I use Xoops on one of my NSFW/Humor sites. Xoops doesn't have as much support or as big of a community as Joomla/Mambo...but do a Google search and you'll see its plenty.

I'm pretty sure that Mambo loads all modules on every page load. It can be server intensive.

Also, don't forget that it is open source. If your site grows, you WILL become a target. Do you really want an open source script running on a popular website? I wouldn't

mod_rewrite is added:

Quote:
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule ^(.*) index.php
But I never used it for heavy traffic sites, just mainly info sites.

I agree with the comment of safety, about being open source ( this is why for shopping carts I do not use OS commerce, but X-Cart ).

On the other hand, I often looked at paid scripts, and most included a heavy proportion of open source input ...

Eventually, if the mySql is too heavy, you could always move the database to a dedicated server just for that ( Dual or other ).
