What are you planning on doing with it? Complicated stuff or just splitting/joining?
I use a bunch of different programs to get things done.

If you have the money go with Avid Xpress Pro
http://www.avid.com/

Films like Lord Of The Rings used that

I personally like Ulead - VERY easy to use
Played with Sony Vegas a bit, but probably has way more features, didn't have the time to continue playing with it - but will cuz I'm sure it will teach me new things.
Still use TMPGenc for color correction cuz I find it easier hehehee h

There are also another 10-15 other programs on my computer for video editing - I guess it depends on my mood

So to make this less confusing - if you want simplicity with a good amount of funtion - Ulead
If you want a lot more bells and whistles and have the time to learn it Vegas or Premiere

Final Cut for Mac or Vegas for PC.

Don't buy Avid unless you like spending alot of money to get pissed off. Only thing Avid is good for is live broadcasts or job security.

I'm an Adobe Premiere/After Effects user myself... I love how both programs compliment each other.

I personnally hate AVID and FCP is more or less Premiere with a different interface.

I don't even bother with other editing progs.

Unless you really wanna go Mainstream, then its Avid with Combustion, Inferno and a few other programs you'll probably never figure out how to use

Ulead Media Studio Pro 8 is excellent, versatile and easy to learn!
Premiere is perfect for Rolling Texts etc at the end of a film.
Rolling texts, in colours etc, even over video etc.

I've never figured out how to do that in Ulead...

Stay clear of Pinnacle Studio!!! I fucked up my PC thanks to that shit! And it refused to get uninstalled too!
