Shark Attack Victim
I was watching this Shark Attack show on the Discovery Channel. They showed a "scientist" helping a shark attack victim get over his fear of sharks. The victim had 80% of his calf removed by a shark bite. They showed the scientist leading the victim to swim into a bunch of sharks to demonstrate that the sharks are not a threat to humans. The victim went in for a bit and came out of the water and stated that it was a great experience.
The show continues and the "narrator of the show" begins to talk about the scientist and how he subsequently had his calf bitten off by one of the sharks not long after they taped the original victim getting over his fear. The scientist obviously didn't appear again on the show (I'm sure he felt foolish), but the narrator stated that the scientist believed that the attack on him also demonstrated that his theory was accurate that the sharks aren't after humans. |

Oh I think the whole "they attack humans by mistake" line is a bunch of BS..
Sharks will attack any target with a quick attack to disable the prey. They then linger around and generally wait for it to die before going in to finish it off. This is why most humans have the chance to escape, meanwhile most animals can't crawl out of the water to escape the next attack. When you enter the ocean like it or not, you are part of the food chain.. edit... holy shit my typing is bad today

Sharks arent after humans apparantly but what the fuck does that matter if you have no calf anymore. Fucking tree hugging hippies with their "they are such magnificent creatures" bs. They are just dumb ass animals that bite in everything they see. Maybe they are indeed not after humans but they take a bit of them anyway.
Im an animal lover but i hate it when people act as if this and that animals are like the smartest animals ever and everything they do is just amazing. |

Say the word "shark" and the first image most people conjure up is a Jaws-inspired white shark devouring unsuspecting bathers while well-meaning authorities and scientists helplessly stand by. Shark attack is probably the most feared natural danger to man, surpassing even hurricanes, tornadoes and earthquakes in the minds of most beach users and sailors. Among the earth's large animals implicated in the attack and consumption of humans, only sharks have not been "controlled" by man. Even the fiercest of terrestrial predators, the large cats and bears, are extremely susceptible to a rifle and "problem" animals simply have been eliminated, leaving many of these species endangered.

I remember reading somewhere that "being eaten alive" was the greatest fear of most humans. I also agree with you post that we have almost zero control over sharks, so they scare the shit out of us (even more than big cats, bears, etc.). |

let's understand that sharks are animals and they don't think. they act merely on instict. sharks are actually afraid more humans more than humans are afaird of them contrary to how they were portrayed in the movies.
