If every vehicle in this nation averaged just 2.7 more miles per gallon...

we could cut our dependency on middle eastern oil

that mathematical equation is far beyond the intelligence and comprehension of GWB

more oil = more money in their pockets.

By how much is the question? We import over 50%. So if you think it is going to cut oil consumption 50%, you are overvalueing 2.7 mpg.

I believe he's talking about making more efficient vehicles overall. But I could be wrong.

Know whats sad? In 1996 I bought a new car to run me back and forth to my then-work. It gets 40 MPG highway. Thats *the* reason that I bought it.

So why is it now that to reach that sort of mileage, you have to get a hybrid?

Lame.

More computers and toys.

The more computers and toys you add to a car, the more "energy" is needed to power it. You want better MPG from your car? Ditch your stereo, roll up your windows, and don't turn on your AC/heat. There are several other ways as well.

Living without lifes luxuries makes life pretty damn boring. I will buy gas from Mars if it means I can listen to Slayer on a high quality system on my way to a ball game.

That shouldnt matter to MPG from the engine. Thats all electrical. That really affects MPG? wow..

Well, I dont really listen to music in the car. I drive about 2 miles per week, so my "carbon footbprint" is nice and tiny. I've gassed up ONCE this YEAR haha. Damn gas will go rancid before I burn it.

Either that or I totally misunderstood my dad when he was explaining it to me. I could be wrong, I will look into it.

Gasoline, a byproduct of oil, is not the only known form of combustible fuel. However, it is probably one of the most profitable.

As long as the elite is making money off it it we will always be dependant on Middle Eastern Oil. OPEC owns us because the ones in power of the U.S. are profiting off of their oil.

more weight=more rolling resistance=less mpg. How about everyone lose 20 lbs. Easy enough

I have a trip computer in the car, many cars do.

I can see the estimated real time and estimated overall average MPG.

I had this installed at the dealer after owning the car for a year. After installing it I drove like I normally do. I'm not a speeder but I do accellerate quickly at times when traffic and conditions allow.

At the end of the week, I was averaging 13.5mpg or so. The next week I drove more carefully and used cruise control. My mileage increased to over 18 mpg.

That was 18mpg of city driving. It's only rated for 15mpg city.

On the highway I keep it to the speed limit and maintain cruise control and I average 23 MPG or so. Much higher than what they estimate.

Lame.

Still plenty of cars that do get over 40mpg.

I'd take a Diesel Jetta as a commuter car, those are well over 40mpg.

Yup cars can run on perfectly on water (Fuelcell, hydrogen) yet it will never
become widely available as long as there is oil left.
