Fuzebox gave it away. At least one of the so called "secrets" - add your blog's RSS feed to your My Yahoo page and you will get listed a lot quicker as well as get more traffic from Yahoo. You can also add it to your personalized Google home page which does help there. Also, make use of Google's site map prgram and ping it every time you post.

open new blogger account. set it up to publish on your domain. open new MyYahoo account. get rss feeder link and paste it in myyahoo feeder. then ping your blog using http://www.pingomatic.com/
you would be listed in less than a day! :)
