How do you tell the difference between a "gut feeling" or "instinct" and

Greed, paranoia, hopefulness etc. ?

It seems like it's so trendy for everyone to talk about it like it's a tangible constant. Like happiness for instance.

If this is the case, how do you tell the difference?

gut feeling is usually something I have to think about for a split second before I know I am doing what is right by me

instinct is just done without thinking or pondering

depends on the type of gut feeling too and the circumstances leading to the gut feeling. some ppl have gut feelings like "something bad is going to happen" and "my girlfriend knows that i cheated on her"

i think the question is flawed though

to me a gut feeling would be in the same category as the latter 3. Instinct is sort of by itself and signifies an absolute reaction based on experience & behavior.

umm.. basically I am asking - how do you tell the diff between a "gut feeling" and just being paranoid?

When that gut feeling is bad, it feels alot like paranoia. When it's good, it feels too much like "over-hoping".

If that makes any sense.

makes perfect sense but what you are asking is the secret of life, you must ask RogerV or AlienQ for the answers.

Yeah, well, everyone acts like the distinction is all easy - I had a sneaking suspicion it was another lie everyone tells themselves and each other.

Instinct happens automacticlly. Gut feeling you have to make a decision.
