				 | Dumbass mechanics !!! Check their work or you may feel like the dumbass! Or maybe I'm the dumbass for trusting a mechanic even though I've used him before. He cleaned and flushed my cooling system this past summer but forgot to tell me there was just water in the system with no coolant/antifreeze. I've spent the last two hours trying to unfreeze my damn radiator that was a frozen slushie this morning. Don't know if the engine is frozen because it got down to about 28 degrees last night for about 8 hours and it's still 31 out now. I've used a hair dryer for about 30 minutes and tried to splash hot water directly on the radiator but no luck. Tried to start it a few times and now the starter is clicking. Any suggestions? Just wait til it thaws I guess.

				 | On second thought he should bear partial responsibility as nobody in their right mind (or honest mind in this case) would flush a radiator and refill it with just h2o.

				 | dont run that engine until the radiator is melted.... you will not have water or anti freeze to cool the engine and just make it over heat... best thing to do is tow the car to an indoor area that will let it defrost/melt... then try starting it... also call this mechanic up... they fucked up, they need to fix it... |

				 | He wanted to cause more fuck-ups in your car so you'd take it back to him and pay him some more money to fix it. All mechanics do it |

				 | Well at 28 degrees you may still be ok. Like Headless said. Pull push or drag it into a warm garage. Let everything get back to normal temp. Toss a battery charger on your battery while you are waiting. You probably ran that down trying to start it over and over. You may get away with no issues. Perhaps a blown hose or leaky radiator but if it didn't freeze solid you may get lucky with the block. Good luck.

				 | The water in the radiator isn't the biggest concern - it's the water in your engine block. The block has freeze plugs in it that are supposed to be pushed out when the ice expands in the block (as opposed to swelling and cracking the engine block) so hopefully if it got cold enough they worked like they were supposed to. Starting the engine with frozen water in the block isn't something you want to do and you can be misled by thinking cause the water is the radiator is melted the ice in the engine is too.... Call that mechanic and tell him about his screw up - have him tow the vecicle to his shop to warm up the engine block and put antifreeze in it once it's warmed up and running again. Be sure to tell him to check the freeze plugs too! |
