How Was 2005 For Movies?

I know there are some kick ass films left for the next 3 weeks, but how was the movie going in 2005?

I have to say the high points for me were:

"Walk The Line"

"Chicken Little"

"Revenge Of The Sith"

"Wedding Crashers"

"The 40 Year Old Virgin"

The reason I chose those three is because they kept the 'movie going experience' alive. Audiences really reacted to the films. Not just sat there like drones.

I know the new 'King Kong' is gonna be the movie of the year as far as audience participation goes. I don't know if it'll beat 'Revenge of the Sith' at the box office, but it ought to be high end fun in th audience.

I rather liked good night and good luck. Doubt it got the box office money much though. Guessing it will get oscar nods though.

Revenge of the Sith, Flight Plan, Kindom in Heaven, Harry Potter, Wedding Crashers, and 40 Year old Virgins are on my toplist..

The Legend of Zorro, Batman Returns, and War of Worlds got low scores here..

With a few exceptions looks like the crowd here is more into the ohh and ahh style of movies.

Batman Begins, Cinderella Man (available on DVD tomorrow), Harry Potter & the Goblet Of Fire, Sin City, Wedding Crashers, The 40 Year Old Virgin, those are the highlights so far.

However, knowing Peter Jackson and what he did with LOTR, I expect King Kong will top them all and be the movie of the year. Also looking forward to seeing what they do with Chronicles of Narnia.

Yo! You may well be right about Peter Jackson and 'KK'. Word here in Hollywood is it could beat out 'Titanic' at the box office! That's a fucking big feat to say the least. It would totally blow me away if 'KK' beat 'Titanic' at the B.O. As for 'Narnia', people here are raving about it. It must have something in it more than the trailers are saying. Also, Spielberg has another movie due about Munich.

We may well be seeing some movie history being made soon.

this was a GREAT year for quality indie films...paradise now (a MUST see) , everything is illuminated, good night and good luck, squid and the whale, capote, etc...

Sin City, The Descent and Broken Flowers were tops for me here. Batman Begins, War Of The Worlds and Mr & Mrs Smith were all entertaining as well. There's probably more that I've forgotten about though.

Hi GregB, I know you are as geeked to see "KK" as I am judging by your earlier posts. I'm hearing its sensational already but I just can't see it beating out Titanic for the box office all time champion. Titanic made $1.8 Billion worldwide to become the number one movie of all time......to put things in perspective, only one other movie in history made over $1 Billion, and that was LOTR: Return of the King......and that didn't make quite $1.2 Billion worldwide..........so that over half a billion dollars difference from the most successful movie ever to the 2nd most successful movie ever, which is staggering.

Everybody knows by now that the thing that pushed Titanic over the edge, despite appealing to every demographic (men, women, young, old) was the ridiculous numbers of repeat teenage girl moviegoers world-wide. Its never happened before like that, and hasn't happened since. It was "Leo-Fever", and even LOTR couldn't match that with their own "Orlando-Fever." Will Kong have the power to approach such numbers? Some critics are already saying this is one of the best movies ever, or to come along in a long time. And it carries incredible emotional power, as I have been hearing repeated reports of sobbing in preview screenings. So my gut tells me this will be the 3rd movie, ever, to go over $1 Billion worldwide. But to beat Titanic? I have strong doubts about that. However, Peter Jackson wouldn't complain about another billion dollar picture. LOTR= $3 Billion........King Kong= $1 Billion? Nah, I don't think he'd mind.......nobody else has even come close to putting numbers like that up in motion picture history.

Worldwide Box Office, So Far, in 2005

http://www.boxofficemojo.com/yearly/...yr=2005&p=.htm

Revenge of the Sith, so far, is number 1, at $848.5 Million, but Harry Potter Goblet Of Fire is already 3rd and I think will go over $900 Million by the time its over to take over #1 spot. Still to come? King Kong, which may surpass them both.

Oh and speaking of Indie movies...Indie movies rock. I have a little tiny movie theater 10 min away from my house that plays indie movies. I practically live there. I saw Napoleon Dynamite and City of God before they were cool. I am L33T
