:mad Platinum Bucks + Bank Of America + Bank of Montreal = Headache?

Has anyone else had Bank of America refuse Platinum Buck's checkes because of the "Bank of Montreal" heading with a Canadian address?

They told me the check would take up to two months to clear and that I would incur a $60 processing fee.

I had trouble putting one in before, but this is the first time they didn't want to take it and told me about the lag + fee.

Anyone in the same boat?

Is the routing number/bank even drawn on a Canadian bank or is it a US subsidiary of BMO?

if you had no issue with cashing checks from them before then tell your banker to look at your banking history to see that check has been done before without any issue's

i know canadian checks here in the us take 2 weeks and there is a exchange rate fee n shit

Yup, they can look at the check history to verify it's credibility. That's all they would do in that "2 months" anyway. Just tell them what check or what dates to look for in your account to find the other ones.

Plat. Bucks checks are drawn from a Canadian Bank but they clear using the US banking system so tell your banker to shut his trap cause your checks are practically from the US. (look on top of the check, there's the clearing info with the address in NY)

Thanks.

Next time I will ask for the branch manager if there's any issue with them accepting the check. I figured that they'd be drawn on a US bank as it seems all the Canadian banks have their own banks in the USA and/or partner banks.

Even if it's a drawn on a Canadian Bank - if it's USD there should be it's US subsidiary or corresponding bank address somewhere - unless it's USD being drawn from a canadian dollar account. (in which case the checks go through special clearing and extra delays + longer delays to know if the funds are good) I'd insist they don't take any 'extra' charges - the check does not reach Canada until it's fully cleared the US system so there's no reason for them to delay it or charge you.

What happens from time to time is a new bank teller inexperienced looks at the check and only sees the Canadian Bank.

But the checks are drawn on Harris Bank in New York.

We send out close to 1000 checks a month, I hear about this happening every few motnhs some new teller makes a mistake.

We have options for Wire $1000+ or Epassporte also if you like.
