Alert - Don?t Click On Link In Cp Spam

ALERT - DON?T CLICK ON LINK IN CP SPAM

Los Angeles - (November 1, 2005) ? The Association of Sites Advocating Child Protection (ASACP) CP reporting hotline Compliance Manager has uncovered a trend in marketing child pornography (CP). Therefore, ASACP is issuing an alert to surfers.

Criminal CP rings have long used spam email to market to very large numbers of recipients. However, recently ASACP discovered a ring that is employing a method of tracking which emails are opened and clicked through to their websites. A unique code is used in the hyperlink contained in each spam email for tracking purposes. This allows the ring to identify active email accounts in their spam email lists and target those that have opened, read and visited their sites with more child pornography spam email. Once the hyperlink is clicked, the unique code in the hyperlink is recorded by software embedded within the index page of the child pornography site and saved for data retrieval later. This method is similar to the methods used by traffic trading sites to monitor the amount of traffic being sent by each member account to the trading site.

In addition, because of the large amount of CP spam emails, there has been a monthly increase from 150 to 300 Red Flag Reports (sites reported, reviewed, confirmed to be suspect CP and forwarded to law enforcement).

?There are various reasons why people would click on such a link - some because they can?t believe that it could be CP and others because they are just curious. Please know that if you ever see an image of a child being sexually abused, that image remains with you forever. Don?t expose yourself to even the possibility of seeing such a horrific image. Plus, your email address is included in these criminals? database. Instead, send the website address (URL) and link to ASACP via the CP reporting hotline - http://www.asacp.org/report.php. ASACP has provided this service to the industry and surfers since 1996. Our Compliance Manager has been trained to handle such situations.? said Joan Irvine, executive director, ASACP

ASACP does not accept spam email reports. However, if the URL of the suspected child pornography site is contained in the email, please report this to us.

To obtain the URL of a suspected child pornography site in a spam email:
? Simply place your mouse pointer over the URL link or linked pic/graphic contained in the suspect email.
? Click the right mouse button to bring up the options window.
? Select "Copy link target to clipboard" with the left mouse button.
? Go to ASACP report form and click on the "Suspect Site URL" box with the left mouse button.
? Press the backspace key on your keyboard several times until the "http://" has been removed and the box is empty.
? With your mouse cursor over the "Suspect Site URL" box click the right mouse button again to bring up the options window and select "Paste" with the left mouse button.
? The suspect URL contained in the email should now appear in the "Suspect Site URL" box in our report form. Continue to fill out the rest of the form with any further information you may have and click Submit Report.

For further information visit the ASACP site (www.asacp.org) or contact Joan Irvine at [email protected].

ASACP does not know how many convictions or sites were taken down as this is done by law enforcement.

However, we can tell you that ASACP received over 150,000 reports in the last two years and approximately 8% of these bring new, unique Red Flag Reports (sites reported, reviewed, confirmed to be suspect CP and forwarded to law enforcement). Much of the WHOIS info is bogus. However, ASACP research indicates that the sites in the Red Flag Reports used:

ISP: USA, Spain, Russia
Domain registrars: USA, Spain and Russia
Billing companies: USA, Russia, Germany

Empirical data

Empirical data is important as evidenced by the fact ASACP Data Indicates 99.9% of Validated CP Reports Are Not Related to Adult Entertainment Industry (http://www.asacp.org/press/pr062405.html).

We all know this and so does the government. However without data, we had no proof. Now we do!

Also, what was interested about the prior info. All the ISP, Domain registrars or billing companies were mainstream and the government know this, too.

What/who's laws do you follow ? like do you only follow up on hardcore complaints ?

I sent in a list of sites last year , after a few months i checked back and every single site was still up. That night i stayed up all night contacting isp's advertisers , etc and had most of them shutdown by the end of the week .. why the huge difference ? what actions do you take and how often do you do followup'son sites you have already tried to have suspended.?

At this point, we follow mainly US laws. When it comes to CP, it makes no difference if it is hardcore or whatever, it is illegal. We go by the legal definition (http://www4.law.cornell.edu/uscode/h...6----000-.html)

Until this year, we only sent the ASACP reports to the National Center of Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) which is the official US clearing house, local offices of the FBI and a few international hotlines. However, the industry wanted us to be more proactive, so we now send these reports to the ISP, Domain Registrars and Billing companies. As you discovered, they very quickly take action.

It obviously does make a difference because every country has their own laws. What is "legal" in holland is "illegal" here..

I guess my question is do you investigate topless 17 year old sites... ?

Like lets just say for example , i saw a girl on "girls gone wild" that was 17 and topless. How do you follow up on this complaint. or would you follow up on this complaint ?

A topless 17 yo is not always considered illegal, it is based on what is occurring in the picture. But that is not the usual situation, the images are of much younger children - 12 and younger. Plus law enforcement is actually interested in finding these victims of sexual abuse. They hardly have the resources to handle all these reports.

Follow up on "girls gone wild" - NO!

I didn't know there was a "usual" situation..

Why wouldn't you followup a complaint about girls gone wild ?
