Composite Fillings or Metal Amalgams? - GoFuckYourself.com

So I was at the Dentist yesterday and they recommended that I replace my silver amalgams with Composite fillings. Any one else have done this?

I have some fillings from when I was a kid.

I asked why.

They said,

1) Amalgams have mercury
2) They expand with hot and cold
3) They leak
4) They cause teeth to crack
5) They don't bond to teeth the way that composite fillings do.

Anyone with experience on this?

Gold (alloy) is the best, especially for caps. (as long as it's your molars or where you can't see it)

since you need to replace all fillings eventually i would wait until you need to, mercury ones actually last longer.

yes, I am an expert on this - mercury is POISON for your body - it leaks into your system on a daily basis and is thought to be the main cause behind chronic fatigue syndrome and a whole host of other ailments. I had all my metal fillings replaced and have felt dramatically better since. They need to be removed a certain way, though, or you can become even sicker.

Shit i just read the details of removing a mercury filling, it made me feel sick. Its no wonder i hate going to the dentist. But i suppose i will have to as i have 4 of these filling to be removed????????

that's the correct way to do it - otherwise mercury is released into your body while they are removing it. Good luck finding a dentist who will do it that way though. I research everything a lot before I do anything. YOu need to find a good alternative dentist in your area who does it the right way if you're going to do it.

But yea, it was the most hellish experience of my life.

I had 8 fillings and I was in the dentist chair being tortured for 7 hours straight.

WOW, that's awesome info. It's funny a few years ago i read something about this. I also read some study that a lot of obesity and depression can be linked to mercury poisoning. I've heard that upon removal of amalgams that one should go through a far infrared therapy too to rid the body of remaining toxins.

I wonder if my dentist is going to go through the same process as your Dr. in Clearwater.

That is a hell of a setup they did on you there though. I like my new Dentist but I may have to check this guy out. I am supposed to go in on the 14th to get 3 fillings replaced. Not much time to figure this out and still get this years dental benefits.

I'm just wondering if that's overkill and part of the sales process of that dentist. I appreciate the information. But I also want to hear opposing opinions on the actual threat of removing your fillings.

That dentist isn't too far from me and the information is compelling but I just wonder if the fear of mercury is excellerated because that's how he makes his money.

I'm not doubting you, I just want to make sure that those measures are really necessary.

Mercury is bad shit, but it's not the entire composition of amalagams

It raises good questions.

You do not want the mercury man.. seriously, even if your dentist is happy he found them in your mouth and can make money on it, its still the logical thing to do. Amalgams have not been used for ages, think about why that most likely is the case.

I'd definately remove them.

I'm getting some old amalgams replaced + some new ones in a few days...apart from my dentist recommending composite over amalgam, what hits home with me is that there is LESS DRILLING involved with composite. That's a big plus for me

Except that they have to drill the old ones out. I'm scared that the drilling will get hot. I had a great dentist growing up and he did a good job on the fillings.

It will be nice to have the composite fillings, next is a teeth whitening too.

Even most mainstream dentists are not using amalgam now - it is now widely accepted that is is reasonably dangerous. I personally believe very dangerous. I used to be nervous constantly - could never sleep a full night. Had no energy.

To think anyone in modern dentistry is still using that shit is a joke. Seriously, you think putting one of the most toxic substances known to man into your body, when it has a proven sustained release of mercury and other toxic metals is not going to be detrimental to your mind and body? Use some common sense.
