Sounds like they are overloading their servers. Tell them to upgrade their 486's and get some Dell servers.

Is it possible?

Seriously they are telling me that the coding in about 4 or 5 of my galleries are overloading the server.

I just can't imagine that...but is it possible?

Well excuse my folly if I am wrong but my understanding is that CSS is "coded" with user's browser so it has nothing to do with your server.

I think they don't know what they are talking about. CSS like Javascript is interpreted by the users machine/browser not the server. The server just serves the CSS file.

If their server is overloaded it's because they don't know what they are doing. IMO

Style sheets are client-side. Tell them to come up with a better excuse.

Here is in fact their last reply to me on icq:
Ok we have a script up that is keeping things under control now.
I cannot explain why your pages are hammering the server like they
are, but it is without doubt, teegeepee urls that are causing the server
to seize up. So I ask that you do not use that style of coding any more
on your galleries. hehe glad you are getting lots of traffic, but can't
have the servers dying on us
It was weird, the server we moved you from, was maxing out
at about 8mbs when most other servers we have we get 25 - 30 mbs
of data transfer out of them and they are not maxed out.
So whatever that code was doing to the server is trying to eat huge cpu time

It really makes sence - LoL

the problem is that CSS doesn't consume any CPU - it it send by server to client and processed by browser. So it uses yours CPU time

Eros, I think you just need to talk to me!

I'm assuming too that you link to the CSS files? You can just put the CSS code into your HTML pages and then they won't notice them being loaded... it really shouldn't cause a problem..

Cheers

No the css is in my html...I am not linking to any css files.

All that I've done is used css for some glow filters and changing the color of the text links...but I just got a message stating that they realize css is harmless to their servers so that's not it.

I knew that when they said it....just wanted to confirm it here...I just wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt...I figured hell I could be wrong.

Anyway my faith is shot.
