dont invite those people that stiffed you last time.

its lame to stick someone with the bill like that

Cory W 11-29-2005 09:14 PM

I have a list. I am slow, but I have finally learned who they are.

I always make sure to go around buying our clients drinks, food or lapdances on the Weg corporate when opportunities arise; I am sure any affiliate would recognize that from me.

However, I have to be sly, because as soon as I am buying a round of drinks or at a group gathering, the bill will get pushed back on me. John (now with our company, formerly of Jettis) and I always would get the bill in those "group gatherings."

Now, I invite a lot of people to dinner or for drinks, which is different, but the just showing up at opportune times in annoying.

I had people walk out of a strip club one night. So irritatting, they must have thought it was a "Weg gathering." It wasn't, it was on my card. I don't expense a lot of "fun." In either case, it is rude.

But you know, people are conditioned at these shows to think they are on a free ticket.

Worse than making you pay is that they strategically follow you around pretending to be your friend for hours until you finally give up and sit down to eat or get a drink. Hell, I would rather pay for the drinks than be annoyed for 3 hours!

Awesome. Next time I see you I'm going to give you 2 options; buy me a few drinks or have me follow you around for 3 hours with my pink purse. However, a positive of having me around for 3 hours is I will hold your jacket.

Juicy D. Links 11-29-2005 09:19 PM

Yo who wants t go to dinner?

GTS Mark 11-29-2005 09:21 PM

Cory next time I am with you I am going to run up the most monstrous strip club bill of all time LMAO!!!

DH

GTS Mark 11-29-2005 09:26 PM

We should have an industry wide contingency dinner fund that we all contribute to, so in case someone gets screwed on a dinner they won't have to eat the whole bill themselves LOL!

DH

Jarmusch 11-29-2005 09:28 PM

It's sad to know so many webmasters can't afford their own meal...

Peaches 11-29-2005 09:32 PM

It also sucks (though not as bad) is when you try to divy up a bill and you have 5-10 people who don't believe in decent tipping or tipping at all. Or they think that since they had 10 Cokes at $1.50 a refill they don't owe as much as someone who had a glass of wine. The rest of you who want to go back to that place w/o having your food spit into end up covering tips and overages (which can be high when you're looking at 10 people eating $50+ meals).

Me, I just follow Cory around and act like I'm his friend for 3 hours :)

Xenophage 11-29-2005 09:38 PM

I thought everything was free when we went to shows. You mean we gotta pay ?

Seriously the reason this happens is ever thing is sponsored now days. You go to a show and you can eat drink and even get your hotel air fare and badges sponosred.

I am sorry this happened to you like this.

Well, I am by nature diplomatic I suppose, but I don't think they are deadbeats, they are just conditioned.

Like Lars said...

Also I think a lot of people just go on the fact that companies have a lot of money and think the bill doesn't matter.

DH shouldn't talk anyways, he left me with a 200 peso tab, a stocky mexican and his show donkey in Tijuana once. I didn't have any pesos on me and had to pay off the tab in "other" ways.

That was the ultimate stiff.

I can vouch for that. I was with Juicy and Izz one night at in Vegas... I dropped him a couple hundred bucks, at the time. I asked later if anybody else chipped in and he said no. Needless to say, I paypal'd him half of what he had to spend to pick up the slack from the handful of webmasters that bailed. It's not cool when something is unsponsered, yet everybody acts as if it is.

Hopefully we can do it again this year, Juicy! Just with people who feel like chipping in. :thumbsup

You should not have to ask someone to pay their bill... they should ask you what the owe... if something is sponsored great, if not the bring your cash...

DH hope to see you out Sat. Paint ball was a great night to bad more people didnt show... Could have used a few more targets to shot at. :)

I have only been to a few shows but it has been pretty much free at 90% of what I have done. Sponsors have been great to me, and I have returned the favor with traffic. It does make it hard to know when it is something people are picking up or not.

BradShaw 11-29-2005 10:42 PM

I hate freeloaders. My friends, clients, I will buy dinner for all day and night. But freeloaders can go order pizza.

Yeah I was going to go to that but threw my back out playing hockey that morning... No way I'd be able to dodge paint balls..

DH is right, but it's even deeper. Webmasters expect things for free. The reason there aren't more parties in the biz is that webmasters expect free cocktails all night long. I don't think I can count 20 current companies that have supplied open bar for a large group. And when you do it, do they reward you with traffic?

No offence to you at all Odie, you know how much I love ya but that is the reality. In LA a couple of weeks back, Magnus went out to dinner with a couple of our buddies from COHF and word quickly got around for anyone that wasn't attending a sponsored dinner that there were a few people having dinner in the hotel restaurant.

Anyways this dinner was very clearly a "non-sponsored dinner" from the getgo. But a whole pile of people ended up showing up..

Well inevitably the cheque showed up and everyone bolted like the cheap fucks that they were. Magnus, Joel from Gamma and a few other people got stuck with the bill.

This situation has happened to me personally so many times I care not to remember. Hence the reason I won't go to a dinner that will inevitably turn into a clusterfuck with people either forgetting their wallets or expecting me, Sleazydream or Platinum Dave to pay LOL!

Anyways I don't want to talk down or discourage a webmaster dinner it's just that if it's going down please make sure you bring your wallet and don't be a cheap fuck when the bill shows up.

We remember cheap asses ;)

DH

I totally understand where you are coming from as I for some reason am the asshole at the end of the dinner that has to go around and collect money from everyone. Since I am the one that does the organizing, I feel responsible for the bill even tho I am NOT the sponsor in any way but just the organizer! Thank gawd I'm good at extorting money from ppl! :winkwink:

i have freinds that do that to me @ stripclubs! and yeah they are my cheap ass fucking frineds... now I've learned who to go out with and who to buy a drink/dinner and who not to.

when people know you make the big bucks they expect to just pay for everything. I don't know what they think, that you will be there for them for the rest of their lives paying for their shit?

I can't belive people pay for their flight hotel and shit and then just take off on a dinner bill... wtf? :1orglaugh
