Im traying to clean install XP because right now my comp is filled with stupid errors.
I followed this page.. http://www.theeldergeek.com/xp_home_..._-_graphic.htm I boot from the CD and follow the first couple of steps then i get to a screen. It says "setup cannot find previous version of windows..." Then it asked me to "insert windows xp home edition, windows professional edition, windows 98....ext". like that --> http://www.theeldergeek.com/images/X...Graphic/EE.gif I already have the XP cd in so why is it asking me that? I press enter and it just asks again for it. Why is that? |

Can XP find your CD-rom?
You might try and copy all files to your harddrive and run the install from there

btw, if the screen is exactly like that one you posted you're using the xp upgrade cd which means you have to install an older version of windows and then use the cd to upgrade it. it doesnt contain the complete xp installs so youre SOL if thats all you got

You are using the Upgrade version. It is asking for the old CD so it can 'verify' you have an old version and therefore you can use an upgrade.
If you formatted your drive, borrow an xp cd from someone. If you didnt, get the torrent for a working sp2 version. download http://bitcomet.com go to : http://torrentspy.com and search for SP2, look for one that has a lot of seeders and download it. After its down, burn it to a CD and use it to install. I just grabbed the *fixed* one and it works great.
