best on camera light for video work

I'm looking for a good external video light that will mount on my GL2, or on this new Panasonic if I buy it. I don't want to spend $350 on the light either, just something that will do the trick.

in all seriousness, those lights will actually work in a pinch. good ol'e Home Depot work lights will keep the shadows away if that's all you've got on hand. |

[QUOTE=Elin all seriousness, those lights will actually work in a pinch. good ol'e Home Depot work lights will keep the shadows away if that's all you've got on hand.[/QUOTE] I have never had any luck with on-camera lights, they all seem to be very directional and under-powered. For $200-$300 you should be able to find some nice hot lights, at least one or two with stands in some kind of kit. I see them on aBay all the time.

I have one of those lights and they are a waste of money. If you are lucky they last 15 mins the color of the light is yellow and there is no mains cable to allow direct use when the battery charge runs out. If you are spending thousands on a good video camera why use a cheap $40 light it doesn't make sense ?

Canon has the VL-10. great light. Can keep it on for hours and is nice and brite. I think they were designed for the XL series but i know people with GL-2's that use them.
