Google, etc ... Do they index php pages well ?

The general rumour I hear running around is they do but selectively. I have a site that currently has 1300 pages of php with content on it and will end up with around 2500 + by the time I am done.

I am wondering whether SEO those indivudal php pages is worth it or if it would be a waste of time that would be better spent optimizing html pages/doorways (possibly copies of those)

Just set Apache (or whichever webserver you use) to read .html as a PHP type then.

If there's no PHP code in it, thats fine it won't affect your normal HTML pages. If it contins PHP it will be parsed as such.

Then you don't have to wonder if SE do or don't like php

I'm pretty sure they'll only index .php pages if you have a current "Google Priority ID number.

Why are so many people frieking? Read Googles FAQ section... It states they index php pages but there are occasionally errors with it - I have also seen php pages listed in the engines, just not at top spots.

You need to put 'Google-Index-php 1' in your header

Fiction: Sites aren't included in Google's index if they use ASP (or some other non-html file type.)
Fact: At Google, we're able to index most types of pages and files with very few exceptions. A sampling of the file extensions we're able to index includes: pdf, asp, jsp, html, shtml, xml, doc, xls, ppt, rtf, wks, lwp, wri, swf, cfm, and php.
