IN FLANDERS FIELDS the poppies blow
Between the crosses row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

Yup it is ...they are selling it but I have lost track of what it is suppose to be now. I think it is going to be a concert venue. I live in 'the hood' in a place called Thamesmead..three train stops from the Dome.

I cant believe they have not tore down that tent,The attempted robbery on that place was pretty ingenius, might of got away with it if some big mouth people had kept there traps shut.

I know theamsmead very well infact most of london, I lived in mile end when I was a teenager.

When it was open, I was one my way to work one day and thought 'fuck it, can't be arsed', called in sick and caught a train down London instead and went to the Dome. Really enjoyed it. Seems that most of the people who moan about the Dome never actually went there.

I stood next to Alan Bennett in the queue for the Body Zone

I got to go for free because my parents were over and took me and my husband. I also enjoyed it. The problem was only having it open for one year. Just when they were getting the feel for how to run the place they had to shut it down. Also, on that year it was the most visited tourist attraction in the UK.

Plus, as somene that lives in this area I like the Dome simply because it totally transformed that Peninsula. It was a wasteland before hand and now it has a tube station, yuppie housing (that is ugly but dont tell them that) and a major entertainment and shopping venue. I am sure the money earned and paid in taxes from those buisnesses over the last five years has paid for more than a bit of the Dome.

The only thing I remember thinking was odd was having 'crabs' in the pubic area of the human body. As that was the entrance that made it even the more odd.

Since June of 1996. I like London a great deal. I also like the States as it is where I come from but I have been here since I was 19, got married here, got my degree here, etc. I am a politics junkie so I am always interested in the workings of whatever country I am in

Thats fair enough, I am from Dublin so you can imagine I have a decent grasp on how things operate over there.

While youre thinking about the end of WW1 you might take a walk down to Fleet St and take a gander at that statue of Arthur Harris and remember his famous quote from around 1921 - "The Arab and Kurd now know what real bombing means within 45 minutes a full-sized village can be practically wiped out, and a third of its inhabitants killed or injured, by four or five machines which offer them no real target, no opportunity for glory as warriors, no effective means of escape."

Churchill added his comments - on chemical weapons, suggesting they be used "against recalcitrant Arabs as an experiment". He dismissed objections as "unreasonable". "I am strongly in favour of using poisoned gas against uncivilised tribes _ [to] spread a lively terror _"

And on went the campaign to control the Iraq "tribal people" with chemicals and poison gas killing

So you might want to add remembrances of all the unruly civilians killed in Iraq up till the 1950s to make sure England could control the oil fields. After all if it werent for them the RAF wouldnt have had anything to do for years

to linkster...in war you should honour your enemies as well.

but lets not forget they were the enemy.

if the battlefront hit your hometown, youd probably be volunteering down at the weapons depot to help them make better and stronger gas.

I'm ready as well for the 11am moment of silence. There were poppy-wearers all over Montreal's downtown these last few days. It's a federal holiday, Phoenix -- all the banks, government departments, and postal service have the day off.

Today in the UK is November 11th, known as 'Remembrance Day' or Armistace Day' when we remember the dead from all the wars. At the 11th hour on the 11th day of the 11th month.

We buy poppys which are sold by the Royal British Legion, the money goes to charities to help provide for the families of those killed or injured serving the country.

You are the one that came up with the "you guys must learn nothing of what happens outside your borders" comment.

if the battlefront hit your hometown, youd probably be volunteering down at the weapons depot to help them make better and stronger gas.
Uhmmmm - you might wanna do a little reading in the history books - England at the end of WW1 decided they wanted the oil in Iraq - so they took Iraq as a war spoils(all of the "allies" used to do that kinda stuff) - and took possession by bombing the heck out of all of the towns and cities - the people of Iraq didnt really like the fact that they had just been occupied by England and decided to revolt against the British. England responded by torturing, bombing, poisoning and gassing hundreds of thousands of Iraq civilians for the first 10 years after WW1 - then when they had made their point, occupied and controlled the oil in Iraq into the 1950s.

And in answer to your point about the gas - I believe it was made illegal to use the stuff in the US some time back - although Im sure the stockpiles are still available in Maryland
We did happen to export some to a friend of ours named Saddam back some 20 or 30 years ago to help out with his battle against the Iranians (who were backed by Russians) which is where all of this nonsense about him poisoning his own people came from - it wasnt his own people - it was the Kurds who were fighting with the Iranian side - they just happened to live and fight in Iraq. But yeah I know we do have some pretty strong stuff and when we gave it Saddam he made good use of it Same as the chemical weapons we gave him
