$2.16/gallon and dropping

My 20mpg SUV is getting a bit more reasonable to fill up. I have a big roadtrip coming up here soon and it will be good to know that I don't need to take a second mortgage out to finance my trip.

I doub't that it's guilt or remorse or even fear of the government. Gas was unnaturally high for some time. Had they had released financials of a quarter that had a $10 billion dollar loss we'd understand the price hike. That extra dollar fifty we each paid didn't do anything but line the pockets of the oil companies. In fairness the oil companies are only part of the price issue, but yes it's about damn time that prices drop. Another $0.75 per gallon drop and I think that we can resume worrying about other issues. I think Bush has the ability to make some changes to help us with the cost of fuel. Should he do so he'll be remembered for quite some time.

Still in the 2.75 range here in Cali, but dropping prices is great fucking news. Driving around an 8 cyl is killing me with current prices.

Tell me about it. My SUV is rated 15/18. I get much better mileage than that which ends up more like 17/24.

I had the dealer install the optional trip computer. For the first week I had it I drove normally and kept the display off. I saw that I was getting 10-12 mpg. I wasn't driving fast but I was driving perhaps harder than I needed to. By driving more easily I nearly doubled my mileage.

That alone helped deal with the gas prices, I'm sure that others have done similar and that's helping our gas prices come back down too. I am going to get another car for daily driving and leave the Mercedes for the weekends.

I also have to use premium in that car and Premium is running me about $2.36.

Yes, I think it will drop to a new 5 year low too.

However, I think much as the fuel crunch in the 70's did it will help to wisen the public up into demanding better fuel economy from Detroit, Japan and Europe.

Steve Forbes, right around the time of Hurricane Katrina made a prediction that fuel would normalize at about $1.50 per gallon. As it approached $3.50/gallon and hinted at $4.00 we thought that was crazy, but regular is a few uneventful weeks away from $2.00 a gallon and then continued moderate consumption and increased production at the refineries will help to normalize costs. I'm not an expert, i've just read a lot on this. My concerns aren't just for myself, but these gas prices effect everything, I'm sure that some websites who've seen lower member numbers as I've seen people post are feeling the pinch because that extra $20 per week was going to the oil companies and not to entertainment.

It's about $2.08 here and it can keep falling as far as I'm concerned.
