![]() Me and the girlfriend are going on a road trip to Boston to do the party thing for St. Patty's this weekend.
Can anybody recommend some good places to check out while I am there? Such as sites to see, good pubs, restaurants, clubs etc... Thanks DH ![]() |

From someone born, raised, and still stuck in massachusetts.. who's been to Boston a few times...
all I can say is... Fuck Boston. The whole place smells like dead fish... Everything is overpriced. Everyone has that irritating fucking 'pAAAAAk thAA cAAAAAA, and have some chowdAAAAAA' accent. And it's loaded with fucking democrats. The aquarium is pretty cool though. But you can duplicate that experience with a $20 screensaver. When you get to western mass, stop and stab yourself in the thigh with a dull steak-kinfe... you'll have more fun. (you'll know you're entering eastern mass when the road conditions improve, cuz the eastern cocksuckers get all the funding) |

#1 Unless you really need to don't drive in the central part of the city. Boston drivers don't signal otherwise they would give their strategy away. I don't know exactly what it costs now but when I lived in Boston five years ago the 'T' (the subway/tram thing) cost 85 cents in one direction. So for example you would pay to go out but the train in the in direction was free.
#2 If she likes to shop take her to Filene's Basement. Forget the upper part of the main store because it is just like any other stuffy department store. Downstair however is the home of some of the best bargins anywhere in the world. When I moved to the UK I bought a years worth of clothing before hand at Filene's for under $100. #3 If you don't mind being laughed at go on one of the duck tours. http://www.bostonducktours.com/ IF you do mind take a trolley tour. I've done both, they are both decent tours of the city but the duck tours are just a bit more silly. #4 If you have a chance get out of the city and head for my faveorite area in the entire world. That would be the Cape Anne area. Salem is on the way so you can stop and do some witch related things. If you go to Salem I recommend the Witch Museum. It is a fun tour that as a child scared the absolute crap out of me but as an adult was just informative. On Cape Anne go to a town called Rockport. That place is heaven on earth and has a number of nice places to eat. It is an artist town and is just on one of the most beautiful locations. It is a bit early in the season to go whale watching (shame because it is amazing) but a short trip from Rockport is Gloucster. In addition to being the town where Perfect Storm was based (as it really happened there) they have some kick ass lobster places there. The most notable in my mind is down by the docks and is called Seven Seas, I think. The lobsters come in from the sea right next to it and end up on your plate. Great town, my faveorite in the whole world next to London actually. #5 The combat zone has nothing to do with the military #6 The reflecting pool at the Christian Science center (if it is on..might not be in march) is one of the most romantic places in Boston. That is on Hunntington ave, I think. Anyway it is right near the Prudental Center which is hard to miss. Finally..if you pass Northeastern University wave at it for me.

Well I would have to agree that the whole town smells like dead fish I think it has something to do with Chinatown......The Big Dig is always a nice surprise?complete by 2005?ok wanna buy a bridge too?? Filene's Basement another treat?Massholes shop like they drive..get ready to kick some ass and you might find a good deal?
Best bet?get a map of the city?the walking map, start at Fenway and make your way to Haymarket..you will pass somewhere in the neighborhood of 200 bars which all have their good points as well as the bad, have a drink in each one?once you hit Haymarket you know what a fish smell really is but you?ll be nice and drunk so you can laugh at all the folks waiting outside all the bars to pay $10 to get in, hear some crappy band, and drink some warm Boston green beer. This is one of the better bars in the area?just ask for the Fleet Center and you?ll find it ? http://www.celticweb.com/mcganns/ this is a pretty good place to eat dessert great stuff? http://bostonchefs.com/clients/Finale/rest_page/ ?The Kansas City steak house in Haymarket has the best steaks, chops, and things like that?big $$$ but well worth it?if you want dinner with a view Top Of The Hub is at the top of the Pru always a good time a great meal?if you really want to drop some useless $$$ http://www.fleetcenter.com/calendar_...EAR=2002?other than that it?s a small city walk 2 blocks to the left and you?ll find something interesting?.oh yea if you really want to be a goof you can dress up like an Indian and throw tea into the harbor?http://www.bostonteapartyship.com/ ?ooops looks like they had a fire..well you can read about it ![]()

Boston is a little boring, but nice.
For nice restaraunts a nice evening to chill go to the North End, thats the Italian town. For night life and clubbing go to Landsdowne Street. Clubs like Avalon, Roxy, Embassy, Karma are good. You can go to the Top of the Hum, it's a restaraunt at the top of Prudential building, so you can see the whole city for top. If it's not too cold you can take the duck tours around Boston. http://www.bostonducktours.com/pages/main.html For bars, I would check out Atlas bar or The Rack. Also check you Newberry Street, it has some nice European stores, nice bars and restaraunts. Well have fun here and if you are gonna drive here, remember, in Boston the "Law is just a suggestion" ![]() |

For someone born raised and loves Boston I can't see anyone saying the place is boring. It is one of the oldest city in America. If you feel like DrinkingHard, try Fanueal Hall, the Hong Kong serves some awesome Mai Tai's and there is plenty of places to bar hop there. I've been kicked outta that place many of times. Just watch out for the wicked tough guys or your bound to get in a fight!
And the food, forget about it! ![]() And for anyone still talking shit about Boston. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Holy shit there are some liars here ...
anyone who was REALLY from MA and Boston and knew anything about it would NEVER ... NEVER ... NEVER 1.) make fun of the local accent 2.) call it boring 3.) ever use the word "New York" in any fuckin positive light! That's wicked fucked up! If you wanna do the normal tourist shit while you are there go walk around the warfs, check out Quincy Market, go clubbing at night, eat at the North End, visit Fenway, goto Jilians, goto a C's game, give the people at Au Bon Pain a hard time, etc. Don't fuck with parking, walk and take the T.... if you're into indy HipHop check out The Middle East in Cambridge. |

The bad thing about Boston is that everything closes at 2pm, after like 3pm the city is a ghost town. Also Boston is a little conservative. Like the town that I live in which is 5 min from Boston is a dry town, they do not have any liquor stores or bars there. Boston is a good place to get an education, building a career or raising kids, but not for having fun.

![]() I was just in Boston in December, but I didn't get sh*t faced and arrested ~ so I don't know that you're interested in my tour but I had a very nice time. The Museum of Fine Arts and dinner with cocktails at Legal Seafood (be sure to have the boston cream pie for dessert). For three of us the day cost me $200 total, and it was all class all the way.

Wicked! lol..haven't heard that since I left Boston.
Legal Seafood. Hah! We used to make faces at people that ate there. Like you needed a credit rating to even walk by it. Best Pizza in Boston is the Boston House of Pizza near Northeastern (if it is still there). Everyone should try their fresh tomato pizza with extra Basil atleast once before they die.

Jimbo's on the waterfront near the fish pier has very good seafood.
For pizza you can't beat Pizzaria Regina in the north end. There's one in Quincy market as well but its not as good. If you want something a bit more upscale and unique, there's great a Cambodian restaurant called The Elephant Walk. If you're going to venture into Southie for the parade you might want to check out the Boston Beer Garden or Molly Darcy's. If you do plan on dining or drinking anywhere even vaguely Irish in Southie, I suggest you make your reservations early. Many of the Pubs won't let you in on St. Patricks day if you're not on the list. |

Hey Drinkinghard,
The girlfriend might like Quincy Market.. I'm sure she enjoys shopping and it's kinda unique and quaint. Thats the only thing I really remember from going to Boston when I was a kid. ~~Alli

Boston.... I remember that. Walked through a slum area to a brewery that was shut to the public that day, went up a big tower to get a good view to find the camcorder battery had run out, went in cheers bar and it sucked. Oh - and one of our party was refused admission by the fascist assholes who work in immigration.

Fenway Park.
Quincy Market. Boston Museum of Science is one of the best in the country, if you like that sort of thing. I go every trip to Boston. I didn't like the Aquarium at all. Way too many people and smelled awful (like people and fish together). Was so busy when I was there, it was hard to breathe.

Yeah west of Worcester it dissipates... in your area ( Holyoke, Springfield, Westfield, etc ) the people are very un-MASS'ish ... it's like they are an extension of CT. They talk and act like it too. It burns me to see all the Yankee hats there! Grrrrr |
