putting multiple monitors on one pc still means you have the computing power of one pc.
try multiple pcs.
then you will have something.
I have seven machines all with their own monitor, all doing differenet things.
one has to run windblows so I an use Photoshop.
the others Linux or freeBSD.
all networked.
that is computing power.

The keyboards are called Logitech DiNovo Media Desktop 2.0 (slightly better than the original DiNovo). They are crap (for me, anyway). Overpriced tat. I paid about $300 for the keyboard/mouse/bluetooth hub package. The keyboard is like a useless laptop keyboard, and I make LOTS of typos on it. Really annoying. Looks great though, and it's all wireless. Am nevertheless tempted to replace it with a $10 traditional keyboard for daily practical use. Or hire a typist.

Here's my setup - 23" 1920x1200 overlooking the river in central London:

http://pisstits.com/desk1.jpg

And I really don't need a second monitor. I have a wall:

steffie 10-31-2005 07:14 AM

For the world I don't know what everybody needs 2 monitors. I have 1 PC 1 Laptop (at the pool) and one Mac for cutting DVD's and stuff.. If I had 2 monitors on all the time I go insane.

I made a decision a few years ago that this bz better run on its own for at least 1 week so I can get away and thankfully it does..

Hail to my workstation

BIG PHEY

I looked at it since Id like a keyboard for my tv and thats BT so its crap? Its pretty expensive...

I love having duals, but I'd like to add a second computer and a 3rd monitor. Then run Multiplicity so one box has a single monitor (for video transcoding, etc) and the main box has duals.

I think its better to have more than one machine on one monitor, I got 4 on mine now I only use 2 really

Well....

For me... I am generaly working on more than one program at a time.
Custom Client/Server stuff that interacts with the websites as well.

Try doing that on one monitor...

Ross 10-31-2005 08:10 AM

I must not be a real webmaster then. I work from my Dell desktop with a 19"tft monitor. I also have another 3 pc's in my office that don't get used, and my Dell laptop.

Damn... and there I was thinking I was doing good as well.

Idiot

Well for what I do, that would be a huge pain in the ass...

I guess it all depends on what your doing......

This is plenty for me....

Drive D is a hot swappable USB drive that I can take with me, I have
a triple display system in Canada for when I get a chance to get home.

God, I remember upgrading to my first 80 Meg HD from 20.. thinking man I'll never run out space now... lol

Gone are the days of tweaking you config.sys and autoexec.bat to squeeze every extra byte of memory out of your machine... lol

gornyhuy 10-31-2005 08:27 AM

If you were doing things right you would only have to work a few hours a day on one screen at a time. n00b.

You could have statsremote or some kind of server health monitor running on the second screen, so it's always visible. I'm just about to move to dual head myself.

The little black box to the left of the amplifier is a Squeezebox. I did write a plugin to display current daily revenue on that (I always wanted something like that, ever since I was a kid), but I've changed affiliate partners so many times I gave up writing the scrapers to do it :)

yada yada yada who cares how many monitors someone has as long as they do their work.

Quite the opposite. If you were doing things right, you'd want as many monitors and computers as possible in both your office and home to increase your productivity and make even more money :winkwink:

Jarmusch 11-01-2005 06:50 PM

I see lots of pics here of people with big ass screens running browser windows in fullscreen. That's about the biggest waste of desktop real estate I've ever seen. No wonder most need 2-4 monitors! See marklondon's post above, the best example of intelligent use of monitor space.

marklondon has a nice setup but I still wouldn't be able to be as productive with just one monitor.
