Dell 24in LCD, is this normal??

Is this normal???

I just got this 24inch Dell lcd and i feel nauseous like im gonna puke after looking at it for 15min. Before this i have always had CRT monitors, 2 21in and a 19in that i use daily. But i dont know about this lcd..i turned the brightness down to 25% it seemed to help a little. My eyes feel like they are straining a little bit too..maybe its just too big..

Will i get used to it eventually?? Anyone else experience this going from crt to lcd?

I had the same with Dell's 20 inch LCD ... had to sell it and went back to a CRT. I hear 24 inch is better in that aspect though.

What really helps is working in very bright light. If you're using it in the dark, your eyes will strain a lot more.

The light in this room isnt that great but i do think lowering brightness on the monitor helped..i might lower it some more. I also pushed it back on the desk a couple more inches so im not as close ot it.

I had a similar problem when I first got my laptop. After playing with the color/brightness/contrast and the resolution I finally found a setting that doesn't hurt my eyes....

You need to move the screen BACK...
2 to 2 1/2 feet is a good number... You will no longer feel sick. You also will enjoy all of the extra space infront of you... You can fit like 25 bottles of lotion and like 8 towels...

I couldn't focus my eyes on mine. It took about a week before I could look at it normally. After that its mutch easier on the eyes. I think they are just adjusted to your old monitor.

Im actually starting to feel a little better now..i did push it back some but i think lowering the brightness is what helped the most.

I do like it though..but when i open IE in full screen most sites are setup for 800x600 and the site just sits in the center of the screen with ALOT of empty space. I just need to use half the screen for IE then the other half for whatever else im doing.

I have a Dell 24" wide screen on my main computer and a 20" wide screen on my server ... I love them both.

Make sure to turn the refresh rate up as high as the monitor allows for whatever resolution you are in.

Low refresh rates make me ill.

My Dell LCD's defaulted to very low refresh rates when I first plugged them in... like 60hz or something.

I've been using flat panels for a while now and haven't experienced that. I did adjust some settings on my monitor the other day and it helped the image and viewing greatly.

Very very important, especially with bigger monitors like yours. Kick up the screen resolution, and refresh rate as high as your video card and monitor will allow. This takes away a ton of strain.

it isn't the refresh rate, the pixels are always lit unlike crt. I usually get that when I have a different resolution then what is recommended or the screen is too close or too far away.

Well i have been sitting in front of it all night and im no longer nauseous

This thing is super bright unless you turn it way down..i currently have it down to 15% brightness and its about 2-2.5 feet away from me now.

I think the brightness was the problem.

Its awesome having this huge WIDE screen sitting on my desk

back in the days took me 2-3 month to get used to LCD after shitty CRT.
after eyes got used to it, i had better time working on LCD.
now i can switch between LCDs and CRTs with no problem.
during those 2-3 month stress on the eyes was terrible and somewhat painful though. over all i think LCDs bring less stress on the eyes since they do not have refresh rates like CRTs do.

PS i've never seen LCD screens that can change refresh rate like someone mentioned earlier in the thread, but i haven't shopped around lately, could be something new... doubtful.

60 hertz is a good rate at LCD monitors, 75 is the optimal.
at CRT -100hz is the minimum for me
