With so many disasters in the world in the past few months alone, it's no wonder that the countries who usually "tow the line" might be a bit overwhelmed by it all. Not many countries can afford to keep forking out 10, 20 or 50 million bucks every few weeks for the disaster-de-jeur, especially when many of them (like the US) have major disasters of their own they can barely handle.

More understanding and appreciation is needed, not more fingerpointing.

nah come on.. "Are you brain dead?" was what you posted.. was that meant at the un? but lets let that float...

I doubt that the the rich countries mention here would have any problems helping the UN with their fair share.. totally understand that some countries might have problems donating more, but not the richest countries mentioned here.. lets wait and see what kind of extra donations comes out of the meeting..

Yeah it does come from taxes....apart from government aid the people are
very generous aswell when it comes to sending money....after every dissaster
there are television shows....that urge people to send money....2 days ago
the one for pakistan was on the tele.....within a few hours there was 22 million
euro.....that's a lot considering there's only 16 Million people living in this country. I don't know where it's at now....but I wouldn't be suprised if it
has doubled by now.

It is amazing that a country of 16 mill people can raise 22 Euromill ($26mill) personally - that is more than some countries offered to contribute to AID relief over a five year period (and are still fussing over that!).

My own home country can't to that with a population of about 60 mill, but there are moves to get the ball rolling - let's hope it's not all talk.

It's ironic the folks that give least are those who actually talk about it more than anyone and make claims of being the world's benefactors. :-)
