I'm a stonesthrow from the gulf. But if it stays on it's course, we'll get some high waves at the beach and not much else.

Part that really sucks is business in my restaurants is down because everyone has been afraid to go out at night
But at least so far we are all safe and I sure would not want to be on the Yucatan right now. Good Luck Mexico, and good luck Florida

I just love that we have people from Honduras posting here. Who says the internet doesn't make the world smaller?

I'd rather take my family to Disneyworld. Disneyworld runs on their systems so you can expect A/C, water, and nice cooked meals. They have kennels to house pets and right now they are doing the Food and Wine Festival.

That looks like it goes right through Naples. Wonder how the levee on Lake Okeechobee will handle the rain and winds.

do you all really think it will be that bad over here on the east coast? Im thinking not since it has to cross the other coast first. I figure we'll know more tommorow

It will depend on how far souht its cuts across the state and how fast it travels

If its slow across the state but goes to the south across the keys then up thru s. fla it could be bad

But also if it cuts across a bit north of there and moves fast it wont have much time to lose strengh so lets say it comes ashore as a 3-4 its may only lose 1-2 catagories

Alot of variables at play here

Exactly why the 5 day track forecasts are rarely accurate. Right here you can see the width of the diversity of the models.

Historically you would be correct, however South Florida comes with a variable that throws a monkey wrench in that theory.
Wilma's strength when coming on shore from the west coast *should not diminish by the time it hits those of us on the east coast. Reason being, after it passes over west coast it will then be churning up over the Everglades. The water in the Everglades is warmer than either the Gulf or the Atlantic ocean.
So if she comes on shore from the west side as a cat 4, plan on it hitting the east side with cat 4 force as well.

The dangerous thing about living on the west side of Florida is the Continental Shelf extends out from the shore to about 100 miles. This means shallow waters. The more shallow the water the greater the storm surge comes on shore.

Look at this graphic I found. Looks like Naples will be completely submerged if it lands near there.

TIP: Move to the UK We get no storms like this... Yet although we did have a bad one that wiped out 3 houses in June! but thats the worst since 1962 in England.

I have 5 friends (a family) who moved to SE FL in January this year into a $950,000 house it was totally demolished by Katrina they just spent there last $1.3m on re-building it... :'( looks like there going to hit problems this weekend... whats the current progress of the storm?

Ok the UK doesnt have things like this but i feel for you and hope everythings ok for your sake and my friends family Safe guys hope ur all ok!
