Cannabis, the third most popular recreational drug after alcohol and tobacco, yesterday won an unlikely accolade from scientists who said that it could boost brain power.

Experiments on rats given a potent cannabinoid have shown the drug stimulates the growth of new brain cells. Canadian researchers found that the drug caused neurons to regenerate in the hippocampus, an area that controls mood and emotions, after one month of treatment.

Its effect was similar to that of the antidepressant drug Prozac, which also stimulates nerve growth in the hippocampus. The rats were less anxious and more willing to eat in a novel environment that would normally make them fearful.

Most drugs, including alcohol, heroin, cocaine and nicotine, have been shown to destroy nerve cells in the hippocampus, the researchers from the University of Saskatchewan, Canada, say. "The present study suggests that cannabinoids are the only illicit drug that can promote adult hippocampal neurogenesis following chronic administration," they write in the Journal of Clinical Investigation.

The finding runs counter to previous research highlighting the risks of cannabis use

Pot is a real gift from the nature.
Just dont smoke it too much and choose the natural and high sorts of it. And dont mix with tobacco.
Way better then alcohol or all kind of energy drinks.

Personnaly, i smoke pot, sometimes...not everyday. When i want to be creative in front of my computer, like programming stuff or designing some webpages, i smoke weed. Also when i want to play guitar, it just do well and i usually increase my skills....

but, like everything, abusing of something isn't good at all !!!

I know some guys that are smoking a lot everyday, and i can assure you that they are less smart than before the've started to smoke marijuana. Smoking too much marijuana get you also antisocial and non-motivated to do something.

I agree with you on not smoking daily, been there done that, and it wasn't good. I didn't want to see my friends, even a phone call from anyone would piss me off. Let's not go into regular daily responsibilities like grocery shopping ,or grabbing necessary essentials. I just wasn't feeling it. And yes at the time I was abusing it on a daily basis, and not just 1-2 tokes, I'm talking bowls and bowls daily. Even reading a book that I once enjoyed turned into a fiasco, of me getting impatient that I wasn't reading fast enough, etc. Getting out of bed in the morning became a fuckn chore, I would just lay there.

Now I've completely split my dosage in half (like we are discussing prescription drugs or some shit HA!) and I'm fine now. But yeah agree, don't overdo that shit or BAM!

That outline above lays out clearly why marijuana is outlawed. Not because it gets you high, because it's easy to grow, and you can make damn near anything cheaply with it including fuel, medicine, food.

anyways, when i used to smoke weed (on and off for years), everytime i started smokin it again, i lost ALL my weight but i was eating all the time (damn munchies lol) an old friend of mine used to be overweight to till he started smokin weed.
