I would never put something like this inside my members area. To begin with it would be cheating my affiliates. My main goal is to retain my members. Why in the hell would I want to send them away from my site to sign up for another? How would that help my retention? Do you think that would be fair to my affiliates? I don't.

Upsell, upgrade, cross sell call it whatever you will, but you still get credit for it. and it won't take anything away from your current retention. How do I know this from years of experience.
It will increase your bottom line which you can choose either to increase your payouts or buy yourself a new house.

But it will not steal your members or change your retention at all.
